It was a scheduled signing, so we had to move kind of quickly, but I still got to talk to them for a bit. Wackiest Thing: Murray asked me my name and how to spell it, then wanted to know what I thought of all the different spellings of Megan. I explained that while it didn't bother me too much, my parents had thought they were doing me a favor by spelling it the "simple" way, and yet a lot of people still spell it wrong. Murray then wrote "Megan - You have the _right_ spelling." Nicest Thing: Dave asked where I was from and when I said Croton-on-Hudson, he and Mike commented that Croton is a lovely town and the Clearwater Festival was really great. This made me very proud. I told them I had volunteered at the Festival, and so Dave wrote "Megan - a _great_ volunteer!" on my poster. I also got a "Thanks Lovely Megan" from Jian, and a cartoon "M" from Mike. Another Wacky Thing: On the CD liner, which my sister was holding, they didn't have as much space and just signed their names, but Murray wrote "Don't Kow-Tow to Megan", a message for my sister :) I'm going to have to get them sign something just for her. His allergy is probably related to his asthma. None of the people I know with asthma (including my son) can wear *any* fibers that aren't plant-based or manmade. That business about wool not being a true allergen, just itching a lot -- it's not true, and someone who works in a knitting store really needs to know that. Lanolin and other substances natural to animal hair or fur can cause eczema in sensitive people (particularly asthmatics). And inhaling microfibers can cause a major allergic or asthmatic episode for a susceptible person. That's why so many people can't be around pet animals. But then when I was at the international Moxy Fruvous convention in the Moxy Fruvous museum, shoving my way down the extremely crowded four-lane escalator to the Moxy Fruvous ice cream parlor I saw him going up the other escalator over & I recognized him even though he was wearing a 'thirties Jewish ghetto-type hat (he actually wears these) pulled down to his eyes & a black woolly scarf pulled up to his eyes & I said "Hi, Benny" & his eyes went wide & he scurried away as quickly as he could given the crowding on his escalator. I didn't let this bother me too much though, I went on down & sat with my family at the ice cream parlor where all the sundaes were MF lyrics & they were showing film clips of the conan appearance. Only thing was, MF had been upgraded at the last moment to the Jay Leno show once network people had realized what a phenomenon the lads were, with their own museum & everything. What I saw was Jian doing a Saturday Night Live type sketch wherein he was an audience member making a comment on a daytime talk show, only thing was, he was bald. Apparently his new look was that he had shaved his head not skinhead bald but with about a half inch of stubble. This, naturally, troubled me. While I was loudly expressing my dismay, our waitress who had taken a whole heck of a lot of time getting around to our table starting haranguing me was I one of those shallow people who only liked Jian for his looks & didn't care about his musical virtuosity & SHE for one thought that this was a bold move & not anyones business but Jian's anyhow & what was my problem & I said no that's exactly it, it WASN'T a bold move, he doesn't look like Jian anymore now he just looks like another one of the millions of alternative rockers with their half-inches of stubble & if you, like Jian, had this cool look goin' for you why would you trade it in?
