I figured the review serves as a fairly good respresentative of how a nonfruvous familiar person viewed the performance. Maybe it will make you giggle as it made me. "I was actually pretty impressed with them -- as I mentioned to you in a short note attached to the tape of "gold" -- they were actually rather talented and sounded very good -- although, don't call me a "Moxy Groupy" yet -- they were enjoyable to watch. I personally thought the most talented was the drummer and the lead singer (facial hair) -- they looked like they had the most "spunk" -- although the gentleman who is bald seemed to be pretty spunky too -- they didn't show the bass guitarist very much -- mostly focused on the facial hair man and the bald man." By far the greatest a cappella I have ever heard has been Zap Mama. They're no longer primarily an a cappella group. They spent their first 5 years or so perfecting their vocal instrumentation, and then they added instrument instrumentation - their setup on stage now includes a drum kit, electric bass, electric guitar, and keyboard. But there's still the original Zap Mama sound at the core. Five women singing in French, English, Swahili, and assorted vocal sounds, creating soundscapes, environments, rhythms, and songs. They are amazing beyond belief. If you are a fan of vocal music, you MUST NOT MISS seeing them. Trust me. Zap Mama was founded in 1991 by Marie Dualne, of mixed Congo and Belgian parentage. The original group was almost entirely of Belgian-Congo descent, but 8 years later the band includes people from Haiti, Russia, and various other places.
