If some guy was crying to me I'd want to pat his head, not fight with > him, especially not if I were the dumpee to start with ... having had something similar happen to me (from the looks of the discussion, who hasn't?) I'm going to try to answer this one... the crying is that of regret. the relationship ended and now he's on the phone with her trying to get her to come back to him and she's probably thinking "Why *now*? Why did he break up with me at all? Bastard," and that's not really getting the discussion anywhere. (or "Why didn't he think of this six months ago?") Basically he's letting on to her that he regrets what he did and she's telling him it's too late, so they're fighting. Either that or he's trying to rationalize them not being together by forcing the discussions into arguments. So he's trying to make her *think* he regrets what he did, even if he doesn't. It's a mind game, really. This is pretty much what I did, after being bitter for about oh, a year and a half... (in my case, I wasn't the one who did the breaking up) he's trying to force himself to think that it *wasn't* the right thing, using some kind of wacky reverse psychology so he can think she's the bad person. (just for the record, it worked for me and I'm no longer obsessing over my ex-gf... now I'm just generally bitter :) - -- lawrence solomon * http://www.fruhead.com/users/zaph * zaph@fruhead.com "You knew it was true, when I held you, there were no secrets. I believed it." -Moxy Früvous, _I Will Hold On_ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 06 Oct 1999 07:44:46 GMT From: kayaa@hotmail.com (James Kalyn) Subject: Re: Lyric interpretation s'il vous plait ... On 06 Oct 1999 02:43:24 GMT, bbwminors@aol.com (BBWMinors) wrote: >"I tried and tried and tried that night, I cried and cried so that we would >fight" ... so WHY did he cry to make them fight? Just a quick guess on my part... The narrator/speaker/singer/whatever is in a relationship that can't work out. They don't hate each other, but for whatever reason, this just isn't meant to be. It's going to hurt to break up... it would be easier if nobody had to admit that the other person just isn't The One. To put it another way, it hurts a lot more to break up with a good person who you care about, than it does to break up with someone who doesn't treat you well and who you don't like very much. So, he tried to cause a problem. Not by becoming too distant, but by becoming too close. From the rest of the song, it sounds like a long-distance relationship ("Distance was the accomplice that saw me lose"). Thus, he tried to show the other person how much he needed her - and in the process, she'd see that she couldn't be there for him - - she couldn't provide what he needed - and it would be best if they ended things. Just a thought. I had wondered about this song before... They are a wack bunch. Just to prove HOW wacky . . . they are a five man acapella group with absolutly incredible vocal percussion. You would SWEAR they have instruments. Kurt ran his mic through a squawk(sp?) box at one point and JAMED on heavy metal guitar noise. They covered Walking on Sunshine, Barbara Ann (my GOD a baritone should NOT be allowed to do a falsetto like that. He SCARED me!!), Phish, Stayin' Alive, etc . ..etc . . . But the crowning moment of bizarity which sent me into giggles of hysterical horror . . . .they did Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby". After the first verse, the singer got bored and announced that he was going to do the rest in a foreign Language . . . Scottish. ACK!!! Beautiful accent! I could barely understand a word of it. *giggle* I loved it! OH! On topic . . . . listening to Kurt (the Baritone who frightened me with his range) talking to Beth & Jeff afterwards, he said they saw Moxy Fruvous in Minneapolis recently. Or maybe you really want him to leave, and he is crying to manipulate your feelings (everyone else has given their take on this based on personal experience; lucky you, you're getting mine too ;) . Whether you're the dumper or the dumpee in this story, this could be true. From the sounds of Jian's story (see, I *knew* I didn't need to know all of this), at some point he changed his mind and wanted her back. But it was too late, and she didn't want him back. Crying to keep the fight going might have been a way to keep her from walking out altogether. In my case, it was to keep me from throwing him out. At 4AM when you're tired and hung over and desperately in need of sleep, you don't have much fight in you. ;) peace, ellen (it worked, but only temporarily) *************************************** Requesting some enlightenment... The first rope walks into a bar, sits down, and asks the bartender for a beer. Well, the bartender looks at him suspiciously and says "Hey! Aren't you a rope? We don't serve your kind in here!" And he kicks the first rope out. Well, the second rope decides he'll try his luck, so he enters the bar, asks for a beer, and gets the same result. The bartender will not serve ropes. The first two ropes are ready to move on, but the third rope gets an idea. He ties himself into a knot, unravels both his ends, walks into the bar, and asks the bartender for a beer. The bartender says "I've already told your friends that your kind are not welcome here!" The rope says "I don't know what you're talking about." The bartender replies, "Aren't you a rope?" The rope answers... "Nope. I'm a frayed knot." *GROAN* ===== over 'n' out xoxoxo bridget "Someone needs to tell Mike Ford that nachos DO NOT come in a bowl..." ~Amanda 9/19/99 (or somewhere thereabouts...) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
