The most common reaction is "who are those poeple on your wall?" I explain, they nod politley, and move on. One guy has a friend who listens to them, but hasn't really expressed much interest beyond that. And then there was today-- Working diligently at my desk, I hear from behind me, "Moxy Fruvous? Are you a fan?" Turns out we have a new emplyee in our midst straight from the great north itself, who not only knew and was excited about my fruvous posters (though she has apparently not heard any of the recent stuff), but she then mentioned that "if you like them, you might want to check out this band I interviewed for my old newspaper, Great Big Sea." I like her already ;-) But wait-- there's more. We also have a fairly new assistant editor at our magazine who sits right next to me, with whom I've had a conversation similar to the one at the top of the post. After hearing this exchange, however, she comes over and says "I think I know who your band is!" (People always tend to refer to music I listen to that they don't know as "my bands") She explains she is a big BNL fan, and her cousin has repeatedly told her she has to check out "this band with a funny name, and I think that's it! I didn't remember until I heard you saying they were Canadian" She wants to borrow CDs ;-) Ok, so this is generally the type of post that I skip, but it was such a pro-fruvous day, that I had to share ;-) ~jen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Nobody likes you when you're 23"-- Blink 182 "Do you know that you are very strong?"-- Grover "Measure your life in love."--Rent ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Sep 1999 05:21:43 GMT From: kayaa@hotmail.com (James Kalyn) Subject: Re: OT Andy Stochansky On 29 Sep 1999 03:28:35 GMT, bodaceah@aol.com (Bodaceah) wrote: > I was hoping that one of you who have been lucky enough to have been able to >buy Andy's new cd would be willing to send me any information from it that >might tell me where i can get it. Hey all -- thanks to k@'s wonderfully skilled artistic hand, there is now a non-fading Fruvous bumper sticker available.. of sorts. Backing up a bit. One late, late night (or was it an early morning?) a few months ago, a non-ng friend of mine (Shell, for those of you who met her in Chicago or Milwaukee) was stuck behind a caravan of cars with those Jesus-fish on their back bumpers from Atlanta to Cincinnati. It was a long drive. Along the way, she was listening to a few shows that I'd sent her on tape. Pondering the Jesus-fish, she remembered the "DARWIN" fish (with legs) and the dead fish (with 'X'-eyes), etc, and decided that it would be necessary to make a "PISCO" one in honor of the legendary bandit fish. At the same time, unbeknownst to her, k@ Salyers was thinking of bumper-fish along the same exact lines. So a few weeks later after Shell had shared her idea with me, I was on #mf discussing this with the regulars. k@ happened to be there, and mentioned something about her idea at the same time I was telling the story of Shell's idea. That sealed it, they had to be made. So k@ designed a great bumper sticker ( http://www-personal.umich.edu/~navratil/fruvous/pisco-wb.gif ), we got them printed up, and we're now giving 'em away to whomever wants to tag their car. They're 3.75" x 5", look just like the graphic in the URL above, and are made with vinyl and removeable adhesive -- it sticks really well when you want it to stay, but it can be taken off without leaving gunk all over your bumper or getting out the razor blade. For the Det/Chi/Mil trip, both rental cars sported a Pisco fish; and we had no problems with them staying on for the trip *or* taking 'em off when it came time to return the cars. And it made it infinitely easier to find unfamiliar cars in Chicago traffic when the rear windows and/or bumpers of the cars were decorated :-) All I need to get one or two out to you is a business-sized SASE. They'd have to be ever-so-slightly folded to fit into a letter-sized envelope, so if you want them to stay flat, go with business-sized envelopes. For now, even tho we've got a ton of 'em, I'm asking people to limit requests to two per envelope, and I'll assume that you just want *one* unless you include a note (or write on the back of the SASE-envelope?) that says you want two. I'd rather not post my full mailing address to the newsgroup; if you'd like to get a Pisco bumper sticker, drop me an email at the address above and I'll send you my home address. -Joe, who feels it necessary to plug http://www.waitingforbob.com/ here :-) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Sep 1999 15:58:21 -0500 From: Josh Drury Subject: Re: more anagrams > Okay, here's an idea: I'll toss out the (hopefully appropriate) anagram of the song, and see who can get it: Boy Loses Vim = ?
