WAS- Re: All of the Above The fame thread again. Ok let me adjust these goggles and dive on in..... First, the word "mainstream" has been bandied about with wild abandon. A case could be made that there is no such thing anymore, at least not the same as there once was. I don't think there has ever been a period of time filled with so many "streams". Unless you define mainstream as size of fan base (selling out large venues is merely the visible "symptom" of fan base size) which would put Celine Dion, DMB, N'Sync et al, and Puff Daddy in the same grouping which makes me shudder. Oh, and I forgot Garth Brooks. Silly me. So the question then becomes, can they generate enough interest amongst the record buying and show going public who are out there buying the above mentioned artists (and a bunch more besides) to sell out large arenas? I think it *is* possible. In the same way that we all have in common that we like Fruvous though our other listening preferences are different ( those who like the harmonies may also really like DVN, those who like strong lyrics seem to also appreciate TMBG, those who like the satire and political stuff may like The Arrogant Worms, etc., on and on) if (big if) enough people get exposed to Fruvous, enough will find something to interest them in what they do, and I think they do what they do well enough to keep that interest. Hmm, the last point in that sentence might be a little biased. ;-) Does this mean that those people won't appreciate everything that Fruvous is? Maybe not, particularly at first. But if enough do we may be able to look back and see where the Lads nudged the course of popular music. Now there's a lofty goal. - -- Arbie "Reply to" address altered to discourage spammers, sorry for the inconvenience. afru@nospamdirect.ca - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 03:11:14 GMT From: Katherine Bunting Subject: Re: [alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V3 #853] >>1) Horse riding legend of Toronto >um...
