If a band member wants someone to know something, he'll tell that > person, or tell an audience that person is in. I'd say it's almost *never* > our job to tell other fans about goings-on with the band. This is a good point, however, I have a slightly different opinion on privacy issues. I think the guys are pretty good at self-censorship, and probably don't tell fans things they wouldn't want to be public knowledge. Of course, my relationship with the guys is probably not as close as others on this ng. I'm an acquaintance, and as such, I've never had a conversation with any of them in which I was privy to something that might be considered privileged information regarding the band. On the flip side, though, once Jian asked ME a few questions about my personal life that I felt was more than he really needed to know. However, I could understand his curiosity, so I only told him as much as I was comfortable sharing with an acquaintance who might or might not share this information with other people I don't know. (I think he realized he'd crossed a line when I rolled my eyes and said, "Geez! This is personal! I don't even KNOW you!" If you're reading this, Jian, I apologize for being abrupt, but heck, after three beers, tact has a tendency to go out the window with me.) I guess what I'm trying to say is the responsiblility for my privacy is ultimately up to me. Personally, I don't tell acquaintances or strangers things about my personal life that I would want kept private. I would hope the guys are responsible enough to do the same. As for what they tell friends, well, I don't think that really applies here. Friends wouldn't feel it would be necessary to broadcast any private information on the Internet, and therefore, this whole conversation is basically a moot point, ain't it? > or those who abuse it will end up with restraining orders and such, which is > still unpleasant, as they would have to go to court and take *more* time out > of their own personal lives that they have very little time in to begin with. Ha ha ha!! What a polite way of saying, "Don't be psycho!" > Either way, we'd lose if that happened. Unfortunately, there is nothing anyone can do to stop obsessive fans. All celebrities have stalkers of one sort or another, and they can only be addressed on a case-by-case basis. Preventive maintenance just really doesn't apply when dealing with unstable people. It's time I quit preaching and go shopping. I'm in need of a snazzy new outfit! Cookie ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Sep 1999 16:37:09 -0400 From: "Gella R.
