It's a tight collection of music and it's where they are right now (actually, I think it covers where they are, where they were and where they're going). I wouldn't want to hook a friend on "Bargainville", take them to a show like Annapolis and have them be disappointed because they didn't hear music they knew. Also, I have an example of it working. I had "Thornhill" on in my car with a friend who has heard their music in the car before, but never really got into it. "My Poor Generation" came on and he started tapping along without knowing it. Finally, about midway through he asks, "Who is this?" "Moxy Fruvous." Anyone know if they are broadcasting from anywhere in particular or just the radio station? Last time I heard them on the radio, it turned out they were minutes from my work out on the street! Also, they will be playing at the Mix Beachfeast down in Kew Gardens (don't ask me where that is - check out http://www.fruvous.com - there are probably directions there) on Monday Sept 6 if you are still in town. It will be an all day concerts featuring a lot of local acts. (has anyone else noticed that the Mix has not officially confirmed MF although it is posted on FDC? Maybe that will be this Wednesday's announcement!). Check out the tour date listing on Fruvous Dot Com for more details about upcoming radio/tv/concert appearences! It has more detailed information. Hello Richard, and welcome to alt.music.moxy-fruvous. I'm sure someone else will roll out the general welcome wagon, but I since it doesn't look like anyone else has replied as of yet, I thought I would. First, I must promote http://www.fruvous.com (or as we all call it here FDC - Fruvous Dot Com). You'll be happy to find that CDs are quite cheap over here compared to England (14 or 15 Cdn dollars versus 15 pounds over there...at least that's what my friends discovered when they came over here...isn't it great when the exchange rate works in your favour?) I would recommend checking out Great Big Sea (http://www.greatbigsea.com has some music files on it if you want a sample of them). Their new album "turn" is terrific, and "Up" and "Play" are also really good (they also have a self-titled album, but it is a lot weaker and not as much of their own music). Barenaked Ladies are also a great band and I would recommend their most recent album "Stunt" or their first album "Gordon". I will defintely be at Harbourfront, along with some of the other regulars here - I hope to see you there! To get up to the minute radio/TV info, you can probably call Jude at MFHQ. Her contact information is on Fruvous Dot Com. Or you can email her at moxy@passport.ca. Checking FDC, http://www.fruvous.com on the Tour Dates page also yields some Radio/TV info though usually calling Jude will get you the best info on radio shows (sorry, Chris). > And does anybody recommend any other Canadian bands that are worth checking out > while I visit?. Lessee. You may want to check out Tory Cassis while you are in Toronto. I think he plays regularly at C'est What? and the Reservoir. I've been to the Reservoir before and it's a very nice place. Tory also just released his first CD. I highly recommend him. Hmmm... Sarah Slean is a Toronto artist, isn't she? I like her lots too, especially when the Cello player is there. She may have some dates in and around Toronto as well. The secret to figuring out what is happening in Toronto is probably gonna be picking up a copy of Now magazine when you get there and persusing it looking for stuff that looks interesting really. As far as other Canadian bands to check out on CD, I'll recommend the Rheostatics. I like them, though I don't hear them mentioned much around here. They have a lot of discs out. I think I started with Double Live, a 2 disc collection of live material. Great Big Sea is also very good, though a little too sea shanty for some people's tastes. They have 4 albums out. Up, their second, is my favorite, though I admit that I haven't heard the newest one, Turn yet. Um... Barenakes Ladies and the Tragically Hip are also good Canadian bands, but maybe you've already heard of them before. They are both pretty big all over the place now. I like Barenaked Ladies music, though I've never seen them live. Maybe You Should Drive, their second disc, it my favorite. Anyways, hope some of that helps and that you enjoy your trip over the pond! We'd love to hear a report of how it all went for you when you get back. - Chad ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V3 #726 ********************************************
