Why I Feel This Is A Great Time To Be A Fruhead a Friday afternoon list by Chad 1) There is a new album coming out Thornhill isn't just an album. This is the first studio album from Fruvous in 2 years. Those of us who have seen concerts have been trusted with seeing previews of all but 1 of the songs on the new album! That's placing a lot of trust in us and the payoff is coming August 10th/24th when we get to hear the final versions of the incredible songs we've been teased with the past year. 2) There is a lot of excitement over Moxy Fruvous If you haven't noticed, there've been good write-ups, new promo work, and asundry other things happening lately that are getting Moxy Fruvous noticed a bit more. It is our job as the loyal grassroots foundation of the fanbase to challenge these new fans to be supporters of the band, give them insight into some of the things we know because we've been around longer, and just generally cultivate more fans like us from passing fans that may not be so loyal, supportive, and so on. 3) Moxy Fruvous is still Moxy Fruvous Those men still make great music. Moxy Fruvous from last year or 1994 or 1992 or whenever you think was the heighth of Fruvosity is still here. No matter how many people want to be in love with Jian or chastise him for flirting with someone else and not them, the people on the stage are the same people on the stage making the same great music. I'm also of the opinion musically, they have come a long way and this is the high point musically to me. It's exciting to hear new songs or old songs transformed into disco. 4) Fruheads are an important part of the machine that is Moxy Fruvous Maybe this is ideal, but in a small company, YOU can make a difference. Each person you play Thornhill for is a potential additional sale of an album of a ticket at a concert. I know I feel the music and whole experience is great enough that I want everyone to experience it and I try to let them know that. And many times that leads to album sales or ticket sales which directly help the band and encourage them to keep making the music I love. Your behavior can affect others. Yeah, maybe we can't get it through everyone's head that Jian is a person and as much as you may be in love with him, you need to treat him like he is a person and not someone to worship on your on (or on our newsgroup). But we can accept new fans and be a resource for real information and hopefully be a good example. Moxy Fruvous needs us. If we all walked away tomorrow morning, Fruvous would live on. But do you think the people behind those 4 guys on stage would be feeling really great about it? I know they worry when they don't see familiar faces around that they used to see. What would it be like to have 400 of the fans that seem to "get it" decide en masse to still get out. I mean, if the people that "get it" are leaving, whom are they doing it for? Just themselves and the money and while those are alright motivations, I think we see from their depth that there is much more than that in Moxy Fruvous. We, the fans, are the difference between monetary success and artistic success. We are the appreciaters of the art. 5) Everyone loves a challenge I agree that we may have trying times ahead. We've had them before. After the Lee's shows, we had a large influx of people. We get new people at pretty steady rate, some with not so grand entries. But we are all sensible people who care about Fruvous. It may get hard sometimes to read the newsgroup because many posts frustrate you. Sometimes it is important to take a break. Representing the band is something we all try to do, even if we don't admit it. We try to enstill respect where we think it is deserved. It can get hard when people don't pick up on it or sometimes we act in bad ways trying to do good things. But we need to persist and work hard to make more solid foundation fans so if the fanbase grows, we don't have hundreds of fans talking about One Week or Particle Man and that is their basis of Fruvous. 6) Fruheads are all over the place I can go to shows in far off places and know people through this newsgroup or through IRC or through having met them at a previous show. Fruheads don't necessarily read the newsgroup. The newsgroup is not a prerequisite. Reading Fruvous.com regularly is not a prerequisite (though you should do it http://www.fruvous.com). To be a Fruhead, you merely have to honestly consider yourself one. If the newsgroup is too much for you, unsubscribe. It won't make you any less of a Fruhead. Fruheads support Moxy Fruvous and you can do that without the Internet. 7) Look at all those new tour dates! Wow. Fall tour is materializing. Get to planning. See how far you can stretch that money. See if you can find a ride from Cleveland to Bowling Green to Columbus and back. See if the bus goes all the way to Regina and if they actually have paved roads in Saskatchewan. See if that guy that talked about the great prostitutes in Vancouver was right. See Moxy Fruvous early and often because you don't know what they are gonna do next. Ok, I'm done. I'm damned excited about the rest of this year myself and I'm interested in seeing where it takes us and them. There are so many possibilities to go forward or back and so many doors open. As a fruhead, I feel like it is my duty to open more doors for them and not to close them and I think the rest of this year is gonna be a big test to see how we can do that. To me, that's great that as nothing more than fans we have the opportunity to do that. - Chad ------------------------------ Date: 07 Aug 1999 00:23:03 GMT From: srm9988n@aol.composter (Lori Martin) Subject: Re: Hailing Fiona..... chad said: >What is an e-mail for you that works? you@frumail is bouncing. all the frumails have been bouncing lately. sigh. fruhead.com can't be up soon enough! - -- Lori ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 06 Aug 1999 20:06:07 -0400 From: chad schrock Subject: Hailing Fiona..... I hooked my social teacher on Fruvous (yeah!!) and she bought her first CD last week and told me about this. The local music store had a promation on that buying a certain CD would win you a $100 gift certificate at the store. Anyhow she picked up Barginville and that was the winner! I know someone through a friend who owns the store in question. I know for a fact that the CD was hand picked by that owner who knows that I shop there and am probably the only Frufan within 100 km. Also she doesn't have a very high opinion of me because I beat her friends three times in a row in a trivia contest at school. So my question is, is it a compliment that she chose that CD and may start to like me and Moxy, or is it an insult becuse she figures that I already have the CD and no one else will get it there by not have to lose $100 in sales? ------------------------------ Date: 07 Aug 1999 01:22:20 GMT From: mocksie@aol.com (Mysterious Mocksie) Subject: Re: Waves......
