Judy, most likely you are what you say you are and just didn't read the contents of all of the various posts very carefully. Assuming that, I must tell you that NOBODY on this newsgroup said ANYTHING about Jian or his private life. What happened was that first the troll who posted the original message was roundly rebuked, and then we began to have some fun amongst ourselves making jokes and whatnot. None of it had anything to do with Jian or anyone that he may be dating. OTOH, it is just possible that this message is just another troll from the opposite perspective, trying to get us to argue about how we ARE NOT being judgmental etc. In that case I decline to take the bait further. Revolver > is about the only Beatles album I've even remotely considered buying. cliche lyrics, somewhat. cliche music, hardly. The sound that Fruvous are best at capturing is the mid-60s Beatles sound. It's not because they have four members who are good songwriters and can sing harmonies. It's that the style they use - the piano parts in a lot of songs, the types of amplification on the guitars, the rhythms, and the types of harmonies, are very reminiscent of the Beatles work. I'd even go so far as to say that songs like "Sad Today," with its intricate orchestration, resemble some of the Beatles later material (like, say, 1967-1969) > To me, Beatlesque is not a compliment; it means "derivative," not > "equally great." In any case, I assume this is a fair review, just > poorly thought out. I'd say it's a compliment - the Beatles were innovative, clever, and defined a style. Moxy Fruvous are very good at playing in that style. It's not saying "These guys are trying to be the Beatles and failing," but rather "These guys are doing a good job of sounding like the Beatles." If they used the term esque, then it would be offensive. But the term Beatlesque gives an image of greatness to most people, even if they don't particularly care for the Beatles music, because they know the kind of power the Beatles had. - -- Lawrence Solomon http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~lps/ zaph@tmbg.org "Just because you're floating doesn't mean * This space inadvertently you haven't drowned." -They Might Be Giants * left with stuff in it. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Aug 1999 01:02:34 GMT From: Melanie Subject: The I/E Thing Jiel wrote: >Could someone clue my in on the whole I/E thing...I may be a little >naive, but I don't understand... It refers to the Myers-Briggs personality test. A couple of weeks ago, I wondered if there was any pattern to the Myers-Briggs types of frufans in an effort to explain at least my own obsession. So people have been writing in with their types. There is a way to take the test off the Internet, but that was posted by someone else, and I didn't save the message. I and E refer to introvert or extravert. However, in MB terms that doesn't mean exactly what it does conversationally. "E"s are people who get their energy from being with other people; "I"s, while they may do very well with and enjoy being with people, will tend to need to get off by themselves to recharge. "E"s will frequently seek out other people in order to recharge. melanie ------------------------------ Date: 01 Aug 1999 00:36:46 GMT From: skystar117@aol.comPHAEDRUS (Deb) Subject: Re: Debs where are you???
