The staff will be kind. The acoustics sublime. The performers? The stuff that dreams are made of. My dreams, anyway. And, I have confidence in saying, probably most of your dreams, too. Did I mention the Woodchuck on tap? It will be a venue that folks come from miles to have the privledge of being with in those walls, performers will clamour to perform there, and will sustain it's independence despite the rest of the county being bought by Pepsi. Performers enjoyed by many in this collective who have had no real place to play in the Cleveland area will suddenly have a venue which makes them feel supported, appreciated, and most of all, safe. ;) I am currently accepting donations and investors. Underwriters are welcome. This Venue [Tentatively dubbed: "Donna's" for convenience] will be a haven for those seeking comfort and joy and the company of folks with like tastes in the wasteland that is usually considered the Midwest. Did anyone else know that these two fine people are originally from IOWA??! I know that many of you are able to claim favorite performers from your home states (and I could name others, but won't). We have a summer series here in Des Moines called "Nitefall by the River" to which a wide variety of musicians are invited to play--there's a small gate admission ($6), but it's well worth the cost. I also saw Eddie from Ohio a couple of weeks ago--who I also thought were great. They have a great vocalist and a lot of originality as well. I agree with Maria about Greg Brown being just a little too blues-y, but he has a dynamite guitarist (Bo xxx)! It was a great evening, and such a friendly atmosphere in which the artists can be approached easily and comfortably. At the EFO concert there were a bunch of kids up at the stage really enjoying them, and last night during Greg Brown's set there were a lot of people dancing around the stage--in spite of the fact that yesterday was the hottest day we've had all summer! (This is in the evening, but the heat was still 'way up there!) At least we're getting some taste of "culture" out here in the "real" mid-west! (I'm always amazed at Ohio - and even sometimes Michigan - being mid-west, since to me, they're "east"! I know it's all relative, but to me Iowa and surrounding states are the "real mid-west". I'm not trying to start a turf-war here--just making an observation.) We were really psyched to learn that MF is coming to Minneapolis in Sept, until we learned it was in a 21+ venue! We'll just keep working to find a way to get them to Iowa. (and now that we know about it can keep our fingers crossed that they'll get to Chicago!) *Lois--hoping to see them live again soon! ------------------------------ Date: 30 Jul 1999 18:01:46 -0400 From: pirmann@panix.com (David Pirmann) Subject: B&P moxy cdrs wanted I'm looking for the two recent ann arbor shows.
