There is *nothing* worse than someone just learning to play the bagpipes. Trust me. A guy down the street from me was learning, and he used to practice. A lot. At night. In his backyard. In the summer, when all our windows were open. Even my learning to play the trombone was less painful than that. And trust me, that was a pretty painful experience for all involved. So what do I do to get over the experience? Run out and join a pipe band... >(on the other hand, seeing Dave in a kilt... ) Quite possibly the best part of being in the pipe band... was that out loud? ;) :) Veronica - -- *************************************************************************** "Never look at the trombones, | Veronica Gruneberg it only encourages them." | Dept. of Biology - Richard Strauss | Queen's University | Kingston, Ontario | ICQ#: 38114574 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jul 1999 11:28:00 -0400 From: David G Garcia Subject: Re: kitten name Anna Desarno wrote: > I have had this kitten for a week, ever since the owners left her behind > (they moved) and I have been calling her Kitty. Lord Baden-Powell brought the Boy Scouts to Canada anyway (I have no clue about the US) and Lady Baden-Powell brought the Girl Guides. "Moxy", with that spelling, was not to be found in my limited search. However, Merriam-Webster's online dictionary defines "moxie" as: 1. Energy, pep; 2. Courage, determination; 3. Know-how, expertise. Also somewhat synonymous with spunk, vigour, verve, etc. As for ye olde Spiderman songe, I suspect there was some sort of copyright problem with printing the lyrics; often you can say (or sing) things you can't print. Even with the lyrical variation (or maybe because of it), the lyrics were kept off the liner. I'm also not sure whether I'll be able to make it to the show or not, and if I can't, I'll be selling my ticket at least a week before the concert for $15 (and I am NOT making any profit off of selling my ticket- also 4th row, and right next to my friend's- I just hope that someone will be able to put it to good use and enjoy the concert). I thought Juliette Gordon Low was responsible for the Girl Scouts/Guides, having gotten the idea from Lord Baden-Powell's Boy Scouts when she was in England.
