I'm not Loren, and I don't even play her on TV, but I have been to Falcon Ridge for the past several years. There is indeed a message board. Finding friends is difficult, though, because of the large numbers of people and the difficulty of choosing a time to be somewhere *before* you get there, and actually working that into your festival wanderings (or even remembering it :) *after* you get there. I think the best way to meet would be nights at the "camps" such as the fruhead camp, the dar list camp, and so on. That way you at least get a large number of people who know each other in the same place, so if you don't find the person you're looking for, you can ask who's seen them recently and where they were headed. > Also, I'm coming up on Friday during the day. Will it be hard to get a > good camping spot? Yes. Based on what I saw last year, and the expectation that there will be several thousand *more* people this year, by Friday mid day your choices of where to camp are rather limited. You'll probably end up having to find some space in between other tents either in the middle of the big tent city down below, or way back on the hilltop. Then again, no camping spot is really "bad", so it's not a big deal. -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@polyamory.org cos@leftbank.com -- WBRS (100.1 FM) -- info@wbrs.org http://www.wbrs.org/ "I'm going down to the hollow, where the trees meet the soul" -- Trina Hamlin, Down to the Hollow ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Jul 1999 18:12:28 -0400 From: Donna Hunt Subject: Falcon Ridgers I need your help! From the woodstock site, the following headline nose, er... news. http://www.woodstock.com/html/feaw0064.shtml Elvis Costello Fears No Man... ...but around Jewel, he protects his nose. Costello comes clean about backstage shenanigans with Woodstock.com. by Erik Himmelsbach It takes a lot to intimidate Elvis Costello. Huge crowds? Not a problem. The Woodstock audience won't even be the largest the songwriter's faced in his more than 20 years of road work (he performed before 500,000 at a festival in Rome, Italy). "[Woodstock] doesn't scare me in the slightest; I'm not afraid of any circumstances," says the prolific songwriter, who will perform with longtime bandmate Steve Naive. "On the contrary, I'm really looking forward to it. It's difficult to unite everybody, particularly when you're playing in the forum I am, where there's just the two of us. We don't have a lot of volume to rivet people. It's down to the power of the performance and choosing the right songs." The prospect of singing before a "whole city all at once" may not daunt Costello, but Jewel Kilcher certainly puts the fear into the man. You see, Jewel, who's scheduled to follow Costello at Woodstock, has a proclivity for nose-grabbing famous musicians, including Elvis, who was tweaked by the Alaskan folk warbler backstage at the Grammy Awards a few years ago. "I heard she did that to Bob Dylan, and she also did that to me, so I take it as probably a compliment," says Costello. "I have a fairly big nose. It's a pretty big target. She said, 'nice nose,' and grabbed a hold of the end of it. I'm going to wear a nose mask if she's around." .........
