Well, I too phoned The Point - they are getting many calls, but say they have not received any confirmation from 'XPN about this show, so they have no info. 'XPN seems to have stopped answering their studio phone - I suspect they've been deluged. So I called our ultimate source - Jude. She tells me that she herself does not have all the details, but as soon as she does she will post them. I discussed with Jude that we on the newsgroup should probably stop calling The Point and 'XPN and just wait until some official info is made available. I'm afraid all the phone calls may get Jude in a little hot water simply for being so great as to inform us before an "official" announcement was ready to be made by WXPN. She seemed a bit perturbed when I told her she'd created quite a stir in the Philly area. This paragraph is strictly my own predictions - I would think it is a pretty sure bet that Thornhill will be WXPN's "album of the week" in one of the first three weeks in August (and maybe even the "album of the month club" pick), so it makes sense that if it's the album of the week for 8/9/99, they will most likely annouce the ticket availability on Monday, 8/9, at the same time the present the album of the week feature on Michaela's show at 8:45 a.m. as usual(if Lindsay is correct that the tickets go on sale one week ahead of the 8/17 show). It is also somewhat likely that the tickets will be offered to WXPN members first. So we'll all have to be on our toes and pay attention! Cheers! gingee Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know. GAMH would be great--It's fairly large (depending on the configuration I think it can hold up to 1,000). For those of you who haven't been, it's worth checking out. I think it's the oldest music venue in SF, predating the 1906 earthquake. And it has quite a colorful history. Very much looks like an 1890s style place. I'm fairly certain neither the band nor the record labels release specific numbers. (And I'm willing to bet they've sold zero 8-tracks, but hey, maybe we can start up something new here. A bring back the 8-track campaign. Then again, anyone old enough to remember 8-tracks probably also knows the many reasons--like fidelity--why we wouldn't want them!) 2) Sales direct from the band DO count toward the charts, or so I believe. Tobey tracks sales and reports them to Soundscan, the tracking company. And the others are correct that how much the band gets to keep out of each direct sale varies widely from venue to venue. 3) However, the best way to get Fruvous noticed is to ask for their discs at record stores. Even if the CDs are in plain sight, always ask for help! The more store clerks that get asked about Fruvous, the more they'll notice the band and that they're selling. 4) I don't know about Fruvous's specific case, but the economics of touring are very complex. As I understand it, most touring bands rely very heavily on merchandise sales to pay the bills. Bottom line: buy lots of Fruvous discs anywhere you can. they may great gifts. buy t-shirts and hats and everything else too. Cheers. It doesn't hurt that Jian does too, and i think it's a teriffic, lyrical, and beautiful song. I saw the post about the removal of the backing vocals. It seems like a good idea. But anyhoo, the main reason I was writing is because in the repeated line with variations "I'll hold your hand if you just need a friend" etc., the tune kept sounding vaguely like something I'd heard before.
