Well, I personally don't collect CDs in general, but when I like a band I'll get all I can of them. For example, I have all the Morphine albums plus all the singles and promo discs I can find. So when they release things like B sides and otherwise, it has nothing knew on it to me. Ben Folds Five did the same thing. It took me forever to buy Naked Baby Photos because I already had 90% of the tracks on it from the 3 shot singles I had. As for count, I probably don't have that many compared to some. I think I have probably over 300 CDs myself, but I listen to most of them a reasonable amount. That's not including DATs that I moved to CD for easier listening. - Chad ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Jul 1999 14:02:20 -0400 From: Lawrence P Solomon Subject: Re: Thornhill Review Lori Martin wrote: > I think we also have to keep in mind that just because certain songs didn't > make their way onto this CD doesn't mean they no longer exist in the Früvous > repertoire, or never will be recorded. I know not of what you speak. (Jen and Veronica lovers.... of the Beatles ;-)[1] Anyway, I think the point of that post (I've forgotten who wrote it, and for some reason it's not in this thread...)was that it was a little *too* complimentary. As in, could there BE a bigger compliment than to compare someone's somg writing to the Beatles? Methinks not. The person got the feeling that the distributor (is that who wrote the review??) was going a little overboard in their praise. I also feel better about the omission of Pisco after having read that... I see more of the direction they were aiming for. I also think there's another factor: If this is any kind of breakthrough album for them (and even if its not) the comparison with BNL is generally unavoidable, given their backgrounds and such (for the record I'm not advocating these comparisons, I'm just pointing out they are often made). And given the blitzkreig and pursuing backlash that accompanied the BNL "breakthrough,"--with one of their admittedly silly songs-- I think it's a good thing to avoid some of that silliness on this release. I think that having them judged on more of the "deeper" songs will bode better for them, because a) it's probably easier to be taken seriously by starting with some more serious songs, and throwing in the silly stuff later, than vice verse, and b) it'll perhaps provide less basis for those BNL comparisons. ~jen (who also really likes the cover) [1]I kept toying with taking that out... on the one hand I wanted to make the reference, but on the other, I don't know Veronica *nearly* well enough to make such jokes... but I don't think she'll mind ;-) - -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Nobody likes you when you're 23." --Blink 182 "Do you know that you are very strong?"-- Grover "Measure your life in love."-- Rent Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know.
