To me IWHO is about > anyone about whom you care deeply -- a child, a parent, a friend, or > yes a lover too -- but for whatever reason you may not be in sync with > them at the moment. point taken, and yes i can see this, too, although not being a parent myself, i can't relate completely. i mostly hear it as a relationship (between lovers) song, because some of the little tender-isms being offered are things that are-- to me-- things a lover would do (i.e. i'll hold the line so you can call; i'll hold the mirror so you can fix your hair, etc). i guess what i hear is something like this: it's a new-ish relationship, the two people clearly have a strong *something* building between them. Wounded Bird says, "i don't know, this is all so sudden... i'm a little scared by all of this." Healer says, "but it's ok, because i know this is right." Wounded Bird says, "but i've been left so many times before; how do i know this is going to work? i don't think i can trust this." so Healer says, "no, look, it's easy, really..." and then there's a song before the commercial break, just like an episode of the partridge family. ;) anyway, my point, i guess, is that i hear this as a song of reassurance and not one of crisis. it can be both, sure-- reassurance in the face of crisis-- but i mostly hear self-assurance and warmth in the narrator's words, and not desperation or fear. disclaimer: this is just my reaction to the song; i know it's not what we've all been told the song is "about," and i know a lot of people would probably disagree with me, because, well, you're not all me. ;) peace, ellen (hey, i like this. what shall we deconstruct next?) *************************************************** If only I'd thought of the right words... Oh, and bass. Same basic arrangement, but without the banjo it wasn't quite as catchy. Still good. #3: 2/19/99 Toronto Same chord changes, same lyrics. That's about it. It went from a laid-back bluegrass song to a rocking funky electric song. And the tune lost most of the appeal that it had in Windsor. It was still an ok song, but not amazing like the other versions. The only criticism I had about the Windsor version is that it did sound a lot like Tureen.
