I mean, these boys can *shred*! They're a little bit Phish, a little bit Marley and a little bit of wholesome rock n roll goodness. I don't know how else to describe them, but they just on fire...the whole 2 sets were like 1 giant jam w/ 2 guitars and a bassist who *ripped* and a drum kit, a piano and a bongo player...one of the guys reminded me a bit of dave, downing like maybe 6 or 7 rolling rocks in 1.5 sets...and still playing the hell our of his 12 string. I was randomly offered the ticket at 2 this afternoon and by 9, I was downtown in this tiny club, Wetlands(which, by the way, would be *PERFECT* for Fruvous, Jude)...it was such a lovely surprise show. Anyway, I just wanted to share my new find with everyone. My friend Josh who took me tonight, is getting to go to both the Croton and NYC GFF shows w/ me next week...so the favor is repayed. I've already got him into KoS...now onto bigger better things;)..plus the whole night only cost me 13$, ticket and dinner included! - -debs/bringing another one over to the dark side. I've gotta back Jen in this one. I'd like to share a story of "overthinking." I used to work in the curatorial division at an art museum, and there is nothing more annoying than a curator's description of a painting. They don't even SEE the picture anymore. At one of our exhibitions, one of the paintings looked exactly like a photograph except for the two people in the foreground. They were the focus of the painting, and they looked less realistic--almost cartoonlike. When a friend of mine mentioned to the curator that those two people didn't look like they belonged in the painting, the curator replied that the two people depicted were some Duke of something-er-other, and his nephew, who had commissioned the painting, and jabbered on with more historical facts. My friend interrupted her, and said, "No, that wasn't my point. LOOK at the painting. They don't LOOK like they belong there." The curator didn't get her point. She knew too much about the painting to see it for what it was. That's how curators approach art. It doesn't matter how passionate the piece of artwork is, the only thing that matters is provenance and historical "importance." That's why curators are academics instead of artists. (i.e. thinking personalities as opposed to feeling personalities--Myers Briggs. Me, I'm an ENFP.) > example: say i were to strongly believe in stronger > gun control laws as a direct result of all the shcool > shootings, and someone were to tell me "we dont need > stronger gun control laws" it would piss me off > because I would not understand why they wouldnt think > we need stronger gun conntrol laws, especially with > the recent school shootings. and the fact that they do > not agree with (better gun control) what i believe to > be justifyable (that we NEED it) pisses me off > but ya know what? a LOT of stuff pisses me off. and i > realize this makes me sound closed-minded. That's > because i am. No, my dear. It just means that you have values. Close-mindedness occurs when you can't see the other side of the argument. One doesn't have to agree with it, but one should try to understand it. Boy, do I feel like I'm babbling.... In the past Rochester has been a traditional stop in their Fall Tours [1]. We have a good Fruvous-friendly crowd... we have WBER, who they always rave about... and it's a good centralized area along I-90 for Western & Central NY. Of course, I could just be a geek and ask at Ft. Erie in two weeks... but the chances of getting a straight answer from the guys?!? yeah, right...[1] I'm sure there are other venues besides the Harro East that could meet Fruvous standards. It just takes a little bit of planning :^) Between WBER (who is damn close to making their $50,000 goal... $775 short by 7am today) and Fruvous, Inc, etc... I'm sure _something_ can be arranged.
