The books that follow get a bit tiresome, but the first book is an excellent bit of absurdity. Douglas Adams' timing in it is superb. (The book actually made me laugh out loud on the subway; that drew some strange looks, let me tell you...) Another book that I read recently that is written in the same style is Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and some guy. Admittedly, it is not as funny as the Guide, but it certainly provides a wonderful take on the Apocalypse. I'm thrilled that the press is acknowledging their new album. I'm even elated that the coverage is happening in Canada, which is, after all, where they're from. I don't mind that I wasn't invited to the party... ;) And I'm not miffed that fruheads were called deadheads w/spiffier clothes... I translate that as "cleaner" clothes, and that's just all right with me! :) HOWEVER... I just felt that the article hinted at the fact that fruvous' "growing up" (as they approach their 30's! :) means that what they've been doing up til now hasn't been...adequate. Maybe that's what Fiona meant when she said it was somewhat "condescending." It made me feel defensive-- I think what they've been doing up til now has been fabulous! Of course I want them to grow-- but that doesn't mean that the first 5 (or 4 and a half) albums were crap! And it makes me feel a little blue-- that the reporter maybe got that idea from the lads... that maybe our guys are very dissatisfied with what's gone on up til now. :( Am I a nut? still glad fruvous is in print, whether it makes me emotional or not, donna Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know.
