It has a cheesy charm and the chandelier is still pretty neat stuff. As I'm sitting here relishing an absolutely heavenly piece of steak (Outback Steakhouse 12 oz special, served with steamed veggies and a side of Shrimp in the Barbie... leftover from last night... food is _always_ the best birthday present for me.. heehee), I caught poor brain dead Dan pondering: >what about that dinner right off of jefferson. on w henrietta rd. > Can't..remember...name. guess the brain is still fried from finals. I > think its the one by the Kwiki mart gas station. Actually, the Diner Dan is siting is Mel's Diner, right next to Park Ave Bike Shop/Snow (or is it Ski) Country. Mel's is ok, they have awesome "Mile-High Pies" (and it _isn't_ all whipped cream... yummmm). They are rather expensive, though. Jay's Diner is further up on W. Henrietta Road, across from the Brighton Movies 10 (used to be the $1 theatre, now $1.50... still cool tho). Awesome food, service can be scary sometimes, I don't know if they still do, but a friend from RIT's family used to own Jays (so we always got cheap/free food!) Between Jay's and Mel's is a Nick Tahou's knock off called Schaller's, which I've frequented for lunch about 4 times this month (hee hee). Real greasy spoon, they serve a wonderful dish called the Schaller plate (knock off of Nick Tahou's Garbage Plate) with cheese or hamburg, or hot dog, or fish, with mac salad and crinkle cut fries, served with a meaty hot sauce... yummm Amy mentioned Gitsi's on Monroe Ave (coincidentally one block over and two blocks up from where I live... hee hee). They are cool, but I actually prefer Mark's Texas Hots about 2 blocks up the street towards the city (one block in the other direction, two blocks up from home). The service is SO MUCH BETTER, and Tobey can attest to their Rockin' Milkshakes and great diner atmosphere. Oh, and their Nick Tahou's knock off is the Trash Plate (see description of Schaller Plate above) Ok, so can you tell I like to eat? And, well, not all that healthily... hee hee :^) So, us Roch Frufans still have to get together at some point, and the next time Fruvous appears in Roch, we fans all have to get together and invade one of these places, right? Well, ok... I'll at least be there :^) Re: Bagels and such (sheesh, more with the food!) Brueggers has awesome cream cheese, Manhattan Bagel has the better bagels of the two... but the best bagels I've had to date in Roch are from a little shop in Brighton 12 Corners called the Bagel Bin. I think they're next to what used to be the Princess Restaurant (they were reportedly closing the Princess, which I would have listed above... whether or not they did I don't know, I haven't been to 12 Corners in awhile). [obl Fruvous comment: it's very hard to type when you're boppin' around to Organ Grinder] Oh! My friend Chris arrived yesterday with a very special item in his hand, The Indie Tape!!! Yeah, it was used, but still looks in awesome condition. B-day present from him and his Sig. Other... *GRIN* Alright, I think I'm done. Oh, I've heard from a number of people that the quality of Phantom depends largely on the cast. "are there früheads here?" she asked. well, duh :). "nice people those früheads. how many of you are on the newsgroup? i lurk among you . . ." well, all i have to say to that is HI KATHY!!! trout fishing's set was great. me, trace, früwench, lori, and steve all got up to dance and had a ball. the workshop was also fantastic. the früvous list: a song they wrote about not being mentioned in the local paper in conjunction with the festival i love my boss you will go to the moon early morning rain that's probably out of order and possibly not complete. the best part of the workshop, however, was when trout fishing challenged the guys to sing along with "all i want is a proper cup of coffee." coming in a close second was when one of the guys from trout fishing sang a song and encouraged the audience to throw things at him when he made puns. needless to say, the song was rife with them. jian took the newspaper he had been discussing and ripped pages out of it for us. we handed them to the little kids, who began tossing them not only at trout fishing, but at früvous as well. murray began a little paper-ball fight with some of the kids. after the workshop, there was a dastardly long line for autographs, so i decided to forgo the meet and greet. i walked past the autograph tent in search of a bottle of water and exchanged a grin with jian, who was walking away with his hands full of bags and early birthday presents. früvous' evening set was rushed and harried, and they appeared to be having quite a bit of difficulty with their instruments. they were introduced by the inimitable gene shay who found himself filling time with jokes as jian screwed around trying to get his drum kit ready. gene began a joke with "what do you call a frenchman . . ." which prompted jian to stop fooling with the cymbals and look at him. the punchline was harmless, so jian returned to the microphones. anyway, according to murray's or jian's list (can't remember which it is that i have--oh wait, it's murray's. jian handed his to a little girl at the end who turned to her friend and started screaming :). half too careful horse hold minnie michy sauce king green psycho - -- dance drink there were no hats for minnie and the bullhorn wasn't on stage so they skipped michy completely. yes, ladies and gentlemen--no michigan militia. they also ended up skipping the dancing queen medley, but at least we got the drinking song :). i jetted right after früvous' set. on my way to the bathroom to change into driving-home pajamas, i watched jian sprint by toward the parking area behind the dance barn. guess he had to be somewhere in a hurry :). a fun day altogether. it made me that much more excited for falcon ridge :). ~~kate - -- kate leahy kleahy@loyola.edu katiewow@frumail.org ***************************************************************** evil is just special with a criminal record. - --doug, 3.26.99 everybody loves a happy ending but we don't even try we go straight on past pretending to the part where everyone loves to cry - --elvis costello **************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 May 1999 20:46:03 GMT From: tmbgirl@juno.com Subject: Re: OT: Bagels (so good they deserve their own thread) but i've been around, all over the country and some of the crap >that >they try to pass for bagels in places like austin, la, and denver >horrifies >me haha, i used to work at a bagel store in denver and the baker's would throw the dough on the floor and on the walls and, yes, this was the stuff that was going into the bagels we were selling. oh yeah... when they say "everything" bagels, you really are getting everything. :D take it easy, JOrdaN http://www2.netcom.com/~arnot/joda/bootlegs.html ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
