I went to a show for a group last week where alcohol was served. I don't think I've forgotten anything. There's a difference between appreciative shouts for good music, and shrieking every time the singer a girl imagines she's "in love" with opens his mouth, blinks, etc, allowing people to hear nothing of the show but the power of her lungs. I don't mind loud crowds who take part when they're supposed to and GET the music. I DO have a problem with groupies. : just because it takes a lil alcohol to make you elderlies as obnoxious : (and yes, ya can be just as if not more so) doesn't mean that it's ok. Alcohol may be why shows are 18+, but that doesn't make everyone drink. (I've been designated driver since 16, so I don't need beer to have fun.) I've seen Fru at ... I lost track, between seven and 10 shows since '92, two all-ages and the rest at bars, and the more annoyingly rambunctious shows were all-ages during their teeny-bopper heyday. And before anyone ELSE jumps down my throat for words I didn't say, I did not say every person under 18 is rambunctious, and no, I didn't say every person over 18 is the model of decorum. I'm talking about the general feeling of a number of shows seen over the years. Period. BTW: the pains-in-the-asses I referred to - as AJ said - are over 18 now. Some taking offense at my mention of young groupies may not have known much about Moxy Fruvous in '93, so most likely AREN'T in that bunch. Wayyyy back in 1986, I was fresh out of college and also annoyed by the screaming schoolgirl syndrome. That is, until I attended the Monkees concert at the Greek Theatre in LA. Suddenly, I found myself standing up, screaming like an idiot throughout the entire show, and yes, even bursting into tears when Mike Nesmeth joined the Davey, Mickey, and Peter for the three-song encore...AND I WAS 22 YEARS OLD! How embarrassing. I was also found screaming myself hoarse and shouting "We love you, Davey!" when I saw them again in 1996. Something just happens to me when I see those guys. I suppose I'll probably do it again in another 10 years. Oh well. I'd just like to recommend NOT getting seats near me at that show. Skip now if you aren't interested. Ok, this actually started Sat night. For those of you who don't know, I'm in a medieval re-creation group called the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). [Aryn and Ladywench/Fruwench are also involved] Anyway, we had an event this past Saturday and during the feast there are bardic (music, song, storytelling) performances. Well, during a lull my friend Lee glanced at me and said, "King of Spain! After the next story!" Now, I'd been fencing all day, recovering from a low blood sugar head-ache, and now stuffed full of delicious food... but me, pass up Faux Fruvous antics??? NEVER!!! So, Lee and I... both dressed in Ghawazee coats and middle eastern finery (Ghawazee's are sometimes referred to as Turkish Anteri coats, traditional garb recorded as far back as about the 18th century...we bend the rules sometimes), and another friend Jen in 16th Cen Italian Renaissance dress Gave a rousing rendition of "KoS" Ending the song with, "Now we're jammin' with Ghawazee Fruvous!" People were quite amused and many asked as to the source of our song :^) Now, last night we had our monthly business meeting (I'm no longer an officer, yay!!!) The Baron came up to me before the meeting started and asked me if I had a tape with that song on it, and could he borrow it. So, I gave him the Live Noise Plus tape I dubbed for roadtrips. Another convert, helpless to the wiles of Fruvous! :^) Ok, thought I'd share.
