I don't think that'll happen. They are different enough from BNL or at least from mainstream's visiage of BNL. If this happens it will based on Canada and not actual similarities. BNL aren't compared to Rush or Alanis or Shania Twain or Keanu Reeves (I just through that last one in for fun *grin*). > 2) They could fail at breaking in, which is just a major bummer. Unfortunatly this is the way fame happens now when you gain it from the label. The label sticks you out there for however long it takes you to make them buckets of money and then pulls you back when the buckets of money are getting half full because they can spend the money they are spending on you to make Britney Spears famous. - Chad ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 May 1999 17:36:04 GMT From: "Jill Hufnagel" Subject: Re: post #2 - Fruvous Dream (long) >I know we've gone around and around with this again and again… >but I figure >there must have been a reason to remember this dream so vividly >and actually >be motivated to write it down before I was fully awake, right? >--Angie Dream I would consider this more a nightmare...I fear that day also, you aren't alone!!! **Jiel** _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. I suppose my comments did sound a bit possessive of the band, but not in a way where I actually believe what I say or do will affect or control the actions of the band. Früvous is my little piece of heaven, the experiences of being at a live show and chatting with the guys afterwards and having them gleefully devour a tin full of baked goods with complete trust are a very unique and personal thing. I know that the day will come when it will no longer be the case, when I'll fade into a sea of other blurred faces. I guess by saying "do we want to share the Lads with the world?" I'm really saying, "can I be accepting enough to deal with the band evolving into something larger and me becoming something smaller?" Not that I'm that big a part of their world now, but to eventually become even smaller? I couldn't speculate as to their real purpose... but I intend to support them in whatever direction they choose to take. Perhaps someday their music may evolve into something that no longer moves me, and I may lose interest... but until then they're stuck with me :^) 2) Bad news yesterday... working it out today. My friend Phillip stood in line from 2:30p Tues until 3:20p Wed for Ep1 tix... and got one for me for the 7pm show. I check the schedule yesterday to discover I'm teaching the second half of a two day evening class, 6 - 9 on the 19th (Arrghhh!!!) So, yesterday I picked up a co-worker's class and ended up teaching a double (day and evening class, 7a - 9p), and he said he'd return the favor by teaching for me next Wed... :^D (Qui-Gon, here I come!!!) The other bad news is that, at least for the moment, I'm scheduled to teach on the 22nd, which is when I'm supposed to be camping in PA (Pittsburgh side, tho). If I do have teach, I'm wondering if it would be worth it to climb in the car and fly down to PA for New Holland? (I'm hoping I can get out of work, tho). ok, so I'm outta here. ciao bye! (Jeez, I hope I > don't start one of those "One free song, what would it be?" threads...) But that's planned out. I'm sure if someone wanted to work up in mp3 a sampling of stuff that may hook someone and submit it to the band for inclusion on FDC no one would mind. If we wanted to work as a group to create it that'd be fine too. But I don't think Chris will just go and do it without word from the band on what they want out of it. How would putting mp3 on FDC fit the Fruvous Roadmap? That isn't a question for us to answer (but hey, we can speculate all we want of course), it is for the band working with their management to answer in my opinion. This is where the mp3 issue gets cloudy for me. If I put up a site with mp3s on it, I'm answering that question for myself without involving them. For bands where I don't know the members and don't think of them as people[1], maybe I wouldn't feel bad deciding for them. But I know Fruvous and I respect them a heck of a lot and I don't want to answer that question for them, myself. - Chad [1] That sounds bad really, but it is true ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 May 1999 18:25:23 GMT From: ross_hendry@bigfoot.com (Ross Hendry) Subject: Re: Fruvously correctness on MP3 On Tue, 11 May 1999 15:15:06 GMT, Larry Dietrich wrote: >It's a busy day for me in the newsgroup..... > >So, another on-topic question: > >I've gotten the impression, although it may be incorrect because I haven't >paid particularly close attention to this issue, that Fruvous is pretty >liberal about people taping their shows and such. >So what's the Fruposition on MP3s? MP3's are a bit of a can of worms aren't they? I have downloaded songs that I don't have to listen to them and I'm sure a large portion of people here have. I use them to try out a band before buying. The chances of me walking into Tower and forking out £17 for a cd of a band I've never heard are roughly nil. To me, they work in the same way as someone giving you a copy of a cd on tape. We've all done that. It's how I got into Fruvous. However, I have now replaced one of the albums with a cd (YWGTTM) thanks to one of the very friendly people on this group (/me waves to Chad The Generous) and I intend to get them all on cd eventually. It's all a question of how much you do it in my opinion. I have no qualms with having the odd pirate MP3 on my computer, we've all got tapes that we've never quite gotten around to replacing but if I was to start downloading entire albums worth and then burning them onto cd's, that would be A Bad Thing. Bootleg MP3's though are a different matter. If the band allows taping then why should they object to distributing them this way? Ross "Right here, right now. Right here, right now. I had been unconsciously defining "Commercial Recognition" (an increasingly ugly term, to me) as something along the lines of label-endorsed celebrity. The other half of that was, of course, the notion that a band can't gain It without the support and funding of a major label. Of course, I guess Ani DiFranco's more or less proved that wrong -- *if* you consider what Ani has to be CR. I don't know what I'd call fame and fortune and all that that was gained without being plastered all over MTV, etc -- maybe "artistic recognition"?
