I think it's pretty unfair to classify Jess as like Ani. I think Jess' songwriting is a lot more diverse at a young age than Ani's was. Ani was punk who's gone commercial. She's incredibly talented as a singer, although these days she seems to have abandoned singing for a less intensely vocal approach to her songs. Jess is more like a classic singer-songwriter with a bit of a modern twist. Ani was certainly an influence, but not the stepping off point.
