(long) OK, so at the advice of kat (aka ^kat^ ;-) I'm reposting my first message on this subject (titled "video project,") below and adding some new info. (Was this a better title, kat? ;-) If you are at all interested in participating in any capacity (ie, receiving a copy or helping in any way) you must e-mail me by next Friday, May 7. (I originally stated that I was setting the deadline at Monday, but have gotten messages from people that they've been having problems accessing the ng. Taking this into account, I've extended the date to friday to ensure everyone gets a chance to read it): ***** >>OK, before the entire video-less faction of the NG pounces on poor, generous- hearted cheesemonkey, I thought I'd submit an idea. I've been involved in these before, and they work quite nicely, provided that there are people out there who the group trusts who are willing to put in a lot of effort. It takes a long time, kids, but the outcome is pretty cool. Here's how it worked last time I did this: - --Everyone with a video clip who was willing to submit it for "the project" sent an e-mail to one organizer, listing what it was, how long it was, and the quality. That organizer than figured out what to get from whom, so as to have the best quality of everything offered, and no duplicates. - --That organizer then posts what is slated for inclusion. Everyone who is interested sends that person an e-mail indicating such. - --From there, the "editor" takes over. This is probably one of the most time consuming parts of the project, becuase only one person can do it. The editor gets the list from the organizer. Everyone then sends their tapes to this person, who compiles it all together on one master tape, and then returns the originals to everybody (so therefore everyone who submits, will have to include money for return postage in their original package.) - --Then we have the distributors. These would be people who are willing to just make copies of the tape onto blank tapes. The organizer figures out how many people are willing to be distributers, and the editor makes one copy for each distributor. --Everyone who wants a copy is assigned to a distributor. Their distributor makes them a copy, and sends it back to them. When i did this last, instead of everyone sending around blank tapes, everyone interested just sent the distributor the money to cover the cost of the tape and the return postage, plus enough so the editor would get reimbursed for sending out masters to the distributors. It's possible you all find this idea completely assanine, in which case, let me know. If there actually are people out there on the NG that are willing to participate, though, post and let us know! I'm willing to work as the organizer, but due to a lack of video equiptment, that's all I can offer (besides this expertly drafted plan of attack ;-).<< ****** As I said above, if interested, please e-mail me by May 7th. In that e-mail, indicate if you are interested in a)obtaining a copy b) contributing, and/or c) helping. If you are interesting contributing, you MUST let me know what videos you are willing to share, how long long they run, and what the quality is. If you are interested in helping, please let me know how. Please keep in mind that in order for this to work, we need someone willing to compile the videos onto a master, in a relatively timely fashion. I do not have the equipment for this, so someone else would have to step up. Please e-mail me at the above address (my aol one) and include "video" somewhere in the subject line. After May 7th, I'll assess what I've received, and decide if I think its feasible. ~jen - -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Do you know that you are very strong?"-- Grover "Measure your life in love."-- Rent - -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1999 17:01:39 GMT From: firedancer Subject: Re: Want moxy videos? Poor child. At one point, Jian pointed out that it was supposed to be _only_ U of R students there, and that all the outsiders should be beaten. It was at this moment that I realized that my RIT lanyard was hanging out of my pocket. I decided then would be a _very_ good opportunity to put it away. A great set by the lads in this show, although I think it started a little slow. One of the funny improv's was the 'Kick The Moose' sketch. Somebody threw a stuffed moose onto the stage, and after playing with it for a little while, Jian (or mIke) invited 2 jock/fraternity types onto the stage to see who could drop kick it farther into the audience.
