What are the top 5 best ways to shut these people up? > If it's *your* ear someone's yelling in, what do you do to make them stop? Only the top five, eh? (In no particular order) 1. Go somewhere else so you're not standing next to them. Doesn't shut them up, but will probably decrease your annoyance factor quite a bit without any human interaction necessary. 2. Tell them you're recording, and ask 'em to help out by quieting down. I usually do this just 'cause I *am* recording, but I have a feeling it has a chance even if you aren't. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails miserably. Offer 'em a copy of the tape if they'll shut up. 3. Child psychology: Challenge 'em to go louder a few times, and after they've done so, challenge them to go softer until they're quiet enough. Doesn't usually work too well, 'cept with little kids. Unless you get them loud enough to lose their voice, in which case the problem is well and truly solved. 4. Loudly and obnoxiously complain about them (or mock them) nearby. Extremely rude, but this has a better-than-average success rate, especially on not-completely-drunk people 5. If they're already really drunk and the beer's cheap, buy 'em a few more rounds until they lose either consciousness or the ability to retain a train of thought centered on yelling at the stage. Also rather rude (and possibly dangerous), but hey... All of these, of course, should be taken with a healthy dose of salt. -Joe / Tapin ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Apr 1999 18:34:05 -0400 From: Daniel Lerner Subject: Re: URochester show definately have to agree with the duct tape. its the answer to all of life's little problems dan - -- "If cloning is outlawed then only outlaws will have clones" Sifyl humor of Dan and Stan: http://www.angelfire.com/ny/worldupsidedown RITCK Online: http://www.angelfire.com/ny/ritcirclek ICQ: 6976841 IM: wwwwud ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Apr 1999 18:47:06 -0500 From: Judith Coombe for Moxy Fruvous Subject: **itinerary update** hello all in frufan land! here are some more tour dates: Thurs April 29 Syracuse, NY Styleens Fri April 30 Utica, NY Rainforest Preserve Mon May 3 Boston, MA House of Blues Tues May 4 Boston, MA House of Blues Thur May 6 Albany, NY Northern Lights Fri May 7 Providence, RI Met Cafe Sat May 8 Hoboken, NJ Maxwell's *early show! doors 7:00 pm!* Sat May 22 New Holland, PA Spring Gulch Sat May 29 Sonora, CA Strawberry Festival Tues June 1 Seattle, WA Tractor Tavern Wed June 2 Portland, OR Aladdin Theatre Sat June 5 San Francisco, CA Fleadh Festival Tues June 8 Los Angeles, CA House of Blues *guest to G. I dragged Bill to a Lowen & Navarro show on Friday night, and this woman up front by Eric Lowen was SOOOO SOOO drunk, she was trying to hoist herself up, lifting up a beer to salute (which we were sure was going to spill all over his pedals and sizzle him) Eric tried to ignore it awhile, while Dan Navarro hung back and rolled his eyes. She was screaming "Yeah Eric! We Beloooong!" (the 1st song they wrote together and kick ass over the Benetar vsn BTW) and finally at one point he just stepped back and yelled "JEEEsus!!!!" At that point someone finally had sense enough to replace her beer w/a setlist (of course, she's not gonna remember what they did the next day) and kept her from getting her leg on the stage. There was another L&N show where they were doing their acoustic encore in the audience and some dude kept talking and I finally just told him to please shut the hell up, I'm here to listen to the music thank you! And it worked. The dude apologized. Angel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1999 02:43:52 GMT From: Angie Armstrong Subject: Review to follow, just a few comments for now Welp, I seemed to surprise a few folks by showing up, as I'd been very quiet about whether or not I'd attempt to crash the U of R party... but i did, and I had a pretty cool time. The drunk Fiona mentioned earlier started her little aria right in my ear... complete with wild gesturing and pointing to Jian (and hitting me on the head and my shoulder). I tried to record the show for Taryn and my friend Julie who's getting married next Saturday, but it sounds really muffled (kinda like the teachers from Charlie Brown trying to sing Michigan Militia, too funny!!!) Anyway, Paul (I think) asked who the opening act was for Syracuse and Utica. Well, I went to Milestones to catch Sarah Slean after the U of R show, and I came in during Sarah Harmer's (sp?) set. She announced that she was opening for Fruvous on Thurs and would be in Utica on Fri. This was confirmed by Tobey (who came in late, was very excited when I told him what she said... went backstage to talk to her 'cause they're actually good friends). Her music... I liked it... she's softer than Susan Werner, but has a little more grit than Sarah Slean (if that helps at all!) It sounds like it's gonna be a good weekend and hopefully I'll get to see some familiar faces from Frü-Con (btw, I'm an Alt-129'er for my oomlats) Lori, I hear you'll be at Utica and George, did I hear you'd be at Syracuse or did I misread?? I'll save a dance for you, hee hee. Ok, my review comes later...
