OK, before the entire video-less faction of the NG pounces on poor, generous- hearted cheesemonkey, I thought I'd submit an idea. I've been involved in these before, and they work quite nicely, provided that there are people out there who the group trusts who are willing to put in a lot of effort. It takes a long time, kids, but the outcome is pretty cool. Here's how it worked last time I did this: --Everyone with a video clip who was willing to submit it for "the project" sent an e-mail to one organizer, listing what it was, how long it was, and the quality. That organizer than figured out what to get from whom, so as to have the best quality of everything offered, and no duplicates. --That organizer then posts what is slated for inclusion. Everyone who is interested sends that person an e-mail indicating such. --From there, the "editor" takes over. This is probably one of the most time consuming parts of the project, becuase only one person can do it. The editor gets the list from the organizer. Everyone then sends their tapes to this person, who compiles it all together on one master tape, and then returns the originals to everybody (so therefore everyone who submits, will have to include money for return postage in their original package.) --Then we have the distributors. These would be people who are willing to just make copies of the tape onto blank tapes. The organizer figures out how many people are willing to be distributers, and the editor makes one copy for each distributor. --Everyone who wants a copy is assigned to a distributor. Their distributor makes them a copy, and sends it back to them. When i did this last, instead of everyone sending around blank tapes, everyone interested just sent the distributor the money to cover the cost of the tape and the return postage, plus enough so the editor would get reimbursed for sending out masters to the distributors. It's possible you all find this idea completely assanine, in which case, let me know. If there actually are people out there on the NG that are willing to participate, though, post and let us know! I'm willing to work as the organizer, but due to a lack of video equiptment, that's all I can offer (besides this expertly drafted plan of attack ;-). ~jen (who has a feeling she's a little insane for even proposing this...) - -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Do you know that you are very strong?"-- Grover "Measure your life in love."-- Rent - -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own ------------------------------ Date: 25 Apr 1999 23:49:49 GMT From: fgardine@uoguelph.ca (F. We got to relive the glories of D-Day--2000 inebriated students, the smell of trampled grass and stale beer...I also recall the strange sensation of having a hangover at 8PM... As you can tell, the crowd was in a good mood and reasonably well behaved with a few exceptions. The guys kept the tempo mostly upbeat for the crowd. One cool episode included someone throwing a stuffed purple mose up on the stage. A groove of "Kiss the Moose, K-K-Kiss the Moose" turned into "Kick the Moose" and Jian invited two annoyingly macho, football, fratboy types up on the stage to compete to see who could kick the moose farthest into the crowd. Only afterward did he reveal the the prize was going to be sex with all of the band members after the show! This game gave Jian ample opportunity to say some pretty rude things about annoyingly macho football fratboy types, but the ones I saw there didn't seem to mind (or notice) so I guess that was just as well. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Apr 1999 22:51:04 -0400 From: Nate DeRose Subject: Re: Guitars Ken Perschke wrote: > > > well, tobey tells me that the guys use simon & patrick guitars, a canadian > > manufacturer. i've never seen one in the US, however. > > This is also the company that makes the lower quality Seagul guitars, which > are pretty common down here. This concert was great! I was kind of worryed that the drunkeness would be a problem, but for the most part it wasn't. There were many drunks, but they were happy drunks. I was impressed. I'm sure someone will post a setlist, which would be helpful, as I have only a sketchy memeory of which songs were played. Here's what I know. They opened with Michigan Milita, which was very well done. Heard Half as Much and loved it. Finally heard The Present Tense Turean, which was quite pogoish. There was disscussion about Cafeateria food that led into Johnny Sauc'pan, a fun way to pump up the crowd. Then it was time for Kick the Moose, which stunned me. I convinced the two girls with the moose that the band would probably go along with kissing the moose, as we had beeen seeing how many people would kiss it. The song ended up sounding almost like a They Might Be Giants song, but it was almost frightening how well it worked, considering the difficulty of doing a song about a stuffed purple moose. I was quite happy. I loved them playing You and Me by the Turtles, and playing with lyrics being U of R being either the 12th or 14th coolest school in New York, considering that Jian already commented on it. Later they confused me to no end by putting on the hats and not doing Boo Time. Towards the end they played a short version of Green Eggs and Ham, which won them a lot of new fans. Towards the end, I was surprised to hear Pyscho Killer, given what happened this week. I actually commented to someone that I didn't think I'd hear it. At the end were Brown Eyed girl, and of course, the Drinking Song, which was perfect. After the show, I talked with Jian, who somehow remembered me, and thanked him for the whole moose thing. Probably what I was most impressed by was the fact that except for the drinking sing, they stayed away from the slow stuff. I think it was the right decision, evven though I love Fly and Horseshoes. It could have turned from a happy drunk crowd to a depressed drunk crowd very easily. (I suppose we should ask the Lads to dedicate a song to him at the Syracuse or Utica show.) I'd also like to make a donation to the proposed Rodney Drive, but I would want to make it something more personal. After all, everyone at FruCon got a photo taken and said photos he developed and wound up shelling out major cash for 1-hour service. This guy is dedicated, but he is not known to many of the upstate New York fans as he is from the DC area. I offer the following, and hope any of the Lads that may read the news group will help us with this: On Thursday, we get the Lads together for a photo... not an onstage one, but a proper "stand still for ten seconds and say cheese" one. One of us locals takes this photo for same-day processing and gets an 8x10 glossy with extra blank space at the bottom. Then, at the Utica show, said local would bring the photo and have the Lads sign it in the extra white space. Maybe I'm overdoing it, but I think it would bring together his significance to us. Oh, and it would be a test of our dedication as fans to get a project like this to work. - -who's with me, Dante ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Apr 1999 21:34:07 GMT From: Cheesemaker Gem Subject: Re: college! ACK. College. I should starting my first year in september, but i am not. I was actually going to go to Brock U, a uni that did not receive honorable ratings in the Macleans magazine annual Canadian University reatings guide. Howvever, due to the fact that the uni is in my city and i cant afford to live anywhere but at home, it was pretty much my only choice. In canada (well, Ontario) you have to complete at least 6 courses of OAC (grade 13) before you apply to uni. I have four, and was working on my final two this semester, but because i am not doing well at all (after missing too many days and heving many personal problems to deal with> read: DEPRESSION) i decided to leave school, as the marks in these two classes would have brought my average down and it was likely i would not be accepted into Brock anyway. SIGH. SO i looked into college applications, and the only college i would be able to attend, again, for financial and location reasons, would be Niagara college, and only the campus located in my city. However, all the courses i wanted to take are all located @ the Welland campus, a good drive away, so i am not going to be able to attend there either. So now i just sit at home, wondering what im going to do, but mostly put it out of my mind, upholding the "if you ignore it, it goes away" ideology. I know i can always retake my OACs and go to university next year, but even then, i dont even WANT to go to Brock. Everyone i know who goes there (including my bro) says its a waste of time and Brock sucks the life out of you, and if they could go back and work or go to college, they would. SIGH. I just hope all of you who get the chance to go to wheverever youd like to go know how lucky you are. Wait, that sounds too preachy. I'm sorry. Its just that things look so hopeless for me right now, i dont know what to do, i dont know what i WANT to do, and whats worse, i have very limited options. Im sorry for boring you all with this, but i thank you for reading anyhoo. - -jen, whos all upset now :( === "Did you know that 1 of 4 people is mentally/emotionally disturbed?
