But I don't recommend holding your breath for them. You'll likely wind up blue. And I have to beg to differ about MM and MTV. Highly different, no matter how much Robbie Williams or TLC they play. MM rarely plays full days of shows that involve no music whatsoever. "House of Style" springs to mind. We have FT for that (Fashion Television) and it's wisely carried on MM's sister station, CityTV (non music) - at least in the greater TO area. Most disturbing moment of the last week - flipping channels and being hit with "Millenium" three times on three different music stations in half an hour. I don't hate the song, but really, there's only so much I can handle! :) Veronica - -- *************************************************************************** "Never look at the trombones, | Veronica Gruneberg it only encourages them." | Dept. of Biology - Richard Strauss | Queen's University | Kingston, Ontario ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Apr 1999 18:52:24 GMT From: "George E. Wayyyyy back when, in the Bargainville era, MM played fruvous videos quite often, i remember. KOS, MBLABOA, and Stuck were played--not to the extent that MM plays, say Sugar Ray or Nsynch NOW, but back when they were "in", fruvous enjoyed a good bit of airplay. Even when they werent so "in", with the release of Wood, i still saw the Down From Above video played too. It was around this time MM did the fruvous spotlight, where all their videos to date were shown, including Fell In Love, and they showed interviews with the lads. (Im lucky enough to have all this on tape). But when Fly came out, i only, as i mentioned in a previous post, saw the tail end of it played on Much one night (on the show MuchWest), and then never saw or heard of it again. Back when the video for Get in the Car was being released, CBC did a short special about it with the lads, and showed a chunk of the video, but it was never played on Much, to my knowledge. My guess is that they probably dont even have it, since they dont care about fruvous, as they arent some sell out pop crap. Are my bitterness rays radiating out there yet? Down with MM! But, as you mentioned, MTV doesnt show ANYTHING of fruvous, so i shouldnt really complain ;). I'm in Salamanca, NY this week (about 1/2 hour west of Jamestown in the Southern Tier). It's quiet, and I'm bored out of my wits. I feel completely cut off this time around because the big boss has decided to leave me to my own devices for phone and premium cable channels and I can't wait to get back to Roch (although Allegany St. Park is absolutely gorgeous... spiritual cleansing. Anyway... The question has been tossed around, "what is an Official Fruhead?" And i say... well, _I'm_ an official fruhead. no definitive answer, no specific criteria... just a love for the music and living for their concerts. I consider myself to be quite honored that the band I like so much knows me by name, and seem geniunely happy to see me at concerts. To me, that makes me feel more like a Fru-Friend than fan. Ok. I apologize in advance but I wrote something last night that I need to share, and I couldn't think of a better forum of people who would understand. This is off-topic, probably confusing, and depressing... so if you don't want to read past this point, please don't. Thank you for letting me take up space in advance: 4/20/99 10:25 PM Evolution? As I'm sitting here listening to the news I have to wonder about us… the superior species called man. I was teaching all day at Allegany State Park and didn't catch the news until a few hours ago about the shooting at Columbine HS in Littleton, CO. All I could do is cry. I listened to some of the stories and recollections and all I could do is cry. For lunch I sat on the shores of a lake within the State Park. I listened to the birds chirping and breeze rustling the pine-needles and branches, I watched squirrels and ducks and raptors and for the first time in a very long time I felt content and calm and re-connected. The sun started to peek from behind the clouds and I started feeling that spiritual boost I used to get when I went camping (real roughing-it camping, not what I do with the SCA). And then I come back the hotel, sit down to eat my dinner, and hear the news. Is this what we've amounted to? Is this our ultimate course of evolution, to exterminate each other, to make ourselves extinct? Not just children shooting each other… but children shooting anyone, suicides… Right-to-Lifers justifying killing a doctor to save an unborn, serial killers, senseless wars and gang action on the streets. What are we doing to ourselves??? What have we become? Though some might find the connection unrealistic and irrational… I find myself thinking about "The Matrix," I've heard the comment before that humans aren't mammals… but a virus or plague on the Earth. Destroying our homes, destroying our surroundings, destroying ourselves. The fact that the human race seems to perpetuate amidst ruination and destruction. Are we some sort of carrion, instead? I've never been much of an activist. There are times when to me the best answer would be a definitive show of force. I'm pro choice, I'm pro death penalty… I'm a hypocrite and sometime supporter of the very things that have horrified me. Are we of such a violent nature? Is our ultimate goal as a species- our instinctual compulsion- to destroy ourselves? I hear about attitudes of today's youth… I see the attitudes of today's youth and have to wonder how we've degenerated so. So many times I see teens or college students and shake my head thinking, "Jesus, was I ever that bad? With all the of trials I've faced while growing up how is it that I haven't completely lost it??" I know what I believe my answer to be… but that's personal opinion based on personal experience. My thought is that in trying so hard to not be abusive in over-disciplining children… we've gone completely to the far extreme and are abusing them by not giving enough discipline. We've rationalized behavior into a stream of scientific excuses and pharmaceutical quick fixes. I'm scared for us… scared for us all. We're on a runaway train and I think we jumped the track about 6 miles back… Thank you for listening, I had to say something to someone.
