You might be surprised, though. I think Kat is right. I didn't care at all about my prom, went by myself, had an ok time, lousy food... but I'm still *really* glad I went. Just because that way I didn't sit back 10 years later and wonder what might have been if I had gone. Now, univerisyt formals... another story. :) (Only been to one of those with a date, and *hoo!* what I time I had! :) Actually, what a time whether I had a date or not...) :) Veronica (hope the dress shopping adventure is going well) Oh, and those who were complaining about the painful experience of shopping for clothes - try being 5'11 and looking for pants that are long enough. Or being same said height and broad shouldered but smallish otherwise, and deal with the fact that, in order to fit across the shoulders, things must fall in a very tent-like manner around the rest of you... but the pants thing is *the* worst. Hello FruFolk, (Note- this is a frucontent-less post) I'll be attending a conference in Montreal in 2 weeks (week of Ap.19), and being the somewhat last minute person I am, have found that every hotel room under $200 a night is booked. So, I was wondering if anyone either has recommendations on a cheap place to stay near the subway line, or not too expensive cab fare wise from the following hotels: LeCentre Sheraton, Queen Elizabeth, Bonaventure Hilton, or Marriott Chateau Champlain. Or, if anyone has or knows of someone who takes in strangers out of the generosity of their heart (or something to that effect) that could work too. Anyway, it would probably we wiser to reply to me at newmana1@pilot.msu.edu rather than clogging up the ng with this thread, unless you have info you just feel compelled to share your information with all. Since I have nothing worthwhile to post about, I'll regale my Prom Tales: Junior Prom, I went stag. I asked two or three people, a friend (who, quite honestly, weirded me out sometimes) asked me and when I finally decided to say yes; he tells me his mom said that the Prom is "too intimate" an occasion (ie, VERY Buffalo Polish Mom freakin' because I was black). So, I went stag. I had a decent time, this guy I was absolutely in love with had 2 DATES!!! but he did spare a dance for me. Senior Prom... asked 5 guys, they all said no, no one asked me... so I didn't go. I told my boss to schedule me to work, so I was working @ Wegmans the night of my Senior Prom. Moral of the story? Since HS I've been to 4 Military Balls, 3 Fraternity Formals, 4 Awards Dinners, 3 Different Annual Formal Events from various employers, and one KICK-ASS News Years Party. IMHO, Proms are overrated (at least, they are for the un-cool and un-popular). The real parties begin after HS, when people outgrow 'most' of the BS. Personally, I LOVE formal events. I love gowns and taffeta and silk and dressing up like Ginger Rogers (except my flowing dress would be in black, royal blue, emerald green, or deep purple...) Doing my make-up, styling the hair, a manicure... new perfume... *sigh* I need an event to dress up for, hee hee Oh, and also IMHO... I thought Molly Ringwald's dress pretty much sucked too. The cut out shoulder-paper sack dress was not flattering... and in general-- I don't think bright red-heads should wear pink. Their complexion is already very pale and the hair/dress clash.
