"Open Joints On Bridge" The first time I saw it, I was with a good friend who decided it must be a command, not a warning ... As a little side note, she and I were in a staff meeting two days ago when the talk turned to a new icon that's been added to our office computer: A Refer Icon (that's actually pronounced "reefer," as opposed to "reFER" though it means the latter -- newspaper folk will know it, right Doug Levy????). We just turned to each other and she mouthed "What is the new icon? A big fattie?" And like the mature adults we are we both dissolved into giggles. They kept going on and on about how it was a "bold helvetica refer" (better than Jamaican, not as good as Hawaiian) and stuff like that and we got worse and worse. No one else noticed I guess but I swear we were waiting to be called into the principal's office. She mentioned later that her first day at the job, people were yelling "Where's the refer?" and she thought "Damn, this IS a great place to work." Not to add to the tech talk on the ng (which I'm sure many people are just loving *grin*), but anyways... SCSI is nice for somethings. Mainly it's that IDE can only process one thing down the bus at once, so if you compete with yourself on the IDE bus, you could have problems. Things like virus checkers, screensavers, Pop mail, or just swapping to something on the IDE bus that your burner is on could really screw up your day. New drives are getting faster, but it is still a problem if your system is poorly configured. I'd be scared of messing with a computer that is burning a CD on it's IDE burner while it is burning DAO. But with SCSI, not only can I have more on the bus at once, some of those operations don't even hit the processor, leaving one less place for an error to occur. That's neat-O to me. I have a few "bad" discs to prove it. Annoying little clicks and pops within the songs, or even skips throughout the track. Like I said in my first response post, I didn't want to take the chance... there was so much debate on the ng's regarding the reliability of IDE burners at the time I was looking for a CD-R that I totally passed on IDE as an option... By now, I wouldn't doubt that the technology has improved, but all I know is that I wouldn't trade my SCSI burner for anything... :) Paul > Not to add to the tech talk on the ng (which I'm sure many people are just > loving *grin*), but anyways... > > SCSI is nice for somethings.
