Well after hearing about all the talk of publicity I thought I would call out for any help you offer with the show. I have done so much to publicize the event- college radio, tv, newspapers, posters, painted banners, set up a table/ info booth the the student union while palaying their music... and we have sold a whopping 35 tickets for a room that can hold 500 people. The problem is that many don't know Dar or the Nields at my school. We are about 45 minutes from Buffalo and not too far from Canada. I really feel at a loss at what to do next. I am charging $2 tickets for students presale-- so it's not a money issue. Tickets have yet to go on sale for non-students. They will go on sale on March 11th- this Thursday. Still, these tickets are only $10. I really don't want Dar and the Nields to play for such a small crowd. In fact most of the people coming are my friends. So please any help you can offer or suggest will be appreciated. I'll re-iterate the info for you again in case any of you would like to come. ( I'm basically begging here...) SUNY FREDONIA---DAR/NIELDS joint show March 18th 8pm Tickets go on sale March 11th for non students.....$10!!!!!! Call 716-673-3501 to order tickets or for information or email me! (pretty damn long) Seems like everyone has something to say about the 'direction' Moxy Früvous appears to be heading, thus I offer my opinion. About the overall direction the new songs seem to be, keep in mind the other three studio albums. A new FrüHead (as I remember being) could listen to Bargainville and find a fun group who have much musical talent but use it in such a way that is unique to themselves. The songs could be labeled 'fun' for a lack of a better term. Then the new listener hearing Wood finds such a 'mellow' and heart-felt album, almost in no way related to the previous album. I remember reading a review of the album which basically says that the new direction Moxy Früvous was taking was much needed for the otherwise satire group. YWGTTM contradicts entirely that 'direction' the band was 'headed' with Wood. Once again, the new FrüHead find a bunch of light, fun songs with the mix, as with Bargainville, of serious songs. So I beg of you all not to get caught up in the new 'direction' Moxy Früvous may appear to be going with the new album. I tried to point out that some tried to allude to a direction with the release of Wood but had that idea fly right through them. Now I will speak on the issue of 'mainstream' songs. In all the posts I have read thus far, I can copy the messages into MSWord and do a Find for 'mainstream' and Replace of 'evil' or 'bad' and your messages would make just as much sense. I ask you this: is mainstream really that bad that a band should avoid it at all cost? Maybe one could look at the use of any electric instrument as mainstream when compared to classical music from earlier centuries, but is it bad? I would like to believe that an ill mention of mainstream, the poster really means to talk about selling out to a pop culture simply because it is popular and not because it is a building step for the band. Perhaps you may know this, but commonly a mainstream sound such as a group like the Backstreet Boys is actually a pre-formed corporate sound. A pre-fabricated band created simply for the marketing ability of the band. Please don't confuse mainstream with this marketing scheme. If every band happened to do what Moxy Früvous does with their music, people would call that the mainstream and people like those I've seen post here would shun the music. I may be alone in this, but, I am a fan who high hopes for the best for a band which I have struggled to see many times. Although it would mean a certain time has passed, if this band became the next huge hit and millions of people turned out to buy tickets to a concert, I would be very happy to know that they succeeded in their careers, not to say they aren't now. I enjoy all the new songs. I first heard IWHO while I was in a great relationship and it touched my heart the way not much did. I have heard that song 3 times now after the relationship ended and to be honest, I stood perfectly still with my eyes closed during the song, listening. Instead of clapping after the song, a tear ran down my cheek each time. That song again touches my heart, even in a way that it didn't before. I would love to see all the new songs I've heard at concerts on the album, but no matter what, I am sure I will enjoy every track on the album. I understand that some of you can pick and chose what you do and do not like, but I can safely say that Moxy Früvous will always write songs that I can enjoy. To sum it up in XXX words: Don't be quick to pigeonhole this band based on a few songs. Are a few mainstream songs really bad songs? I love every new songs I heard, and no matter in what form it's recorded (or played live) I will enjoy it. later, tom.
