Oh, goodenss... Mindy, pass this along, if you would? Megan, trust me, it is not just Toronto that is getting hit. My family lives in Whitby (I know, I know...) and things are just as bad out there. (Out there... it's a 1/2 hour from downtown!) I heard about the strike on my way back to Kingston after reading week, and it made me really upset. My sisters, who are in Grade 11 and OAC spent almost two months out of school this year, and several weeks out last year because their teachers were out protesting the Harris budget cuts. Each and every after school activity has been cancelled in Durham Region, making my sister's hopes of playing varsity basketball here at Queen's a little bit tougher, and depressing me to know that the music and drama programs I helped to build at that school have been shut down. Not to mention that space in the building is so tight that they've split the school in two, had two different starting times, and are *still* holding classes in the library between shelves (no kidding). And from what I hear, things in Kingston aren't much better. All of this makes me really upset, because I know I spent the first three years of my high school career facing one walk out and work to rule after another. It's really very frustrating. And the cuts that just keep happening, to elementary, secondary and postsecondary. Not to mention the fact that *no one* at Queen's Park will listen. Mike Harris was supposed to make an apperance here to "take credit" for the funding which allowed our new BioSciences Complex to be built (funding which came from the NDP and Harris couldn't revoke). Conveniently, he had "personal problems" which prevented him from making it to Kingston, but he managed to make some fancy dinner in Ottawa that night. All we can do is hope that people have smartened up, realized what a dork this guy really is, and let him know exactly what we think in the next election (come on, spring!!) :) Veronica - -- *************************************************************************** "Never look at the trombones, | Veronica Gruneberg it only encourages them." | Dept. of Biology - Richard Strauss | Queen's University | Kingston, Ontario ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Mar 1999 18:25:35 GMT From: Carly Breden Subject: Re: Mindy reads the quotes All right girls, I have to tell you that I was the envy of my block b/c I had a pink strawberry shortcake tricycle.
