To me, the DC/Philly weekend was my own private FruCon for this year, and I'm happy to announce I'm scheduled to pick up my car this Friday... but that's another story. Now then. We can sit here and discuss how Anna may or may not "fit in" and be a "real" frufan. All I know is, the impression I had of her from our weekend in DC/Philly was that she's intelligent, generous, and beautiful. I have been trying to think of the most apt way of putting all my thoughts on this matter, and I just want to say, Anna, be proud. Whatever method you choose to demonstrate your status of "fan" in, there will never be 100% acceptance. It's not a matter of how long you've been a fan, or how many shows you've gone to, or whether you know every last detail down to the lads' underwear sizes and inseams. It's purely a matter of what sort of person you are at heart. I watched a "documentary" the other night about Insane Clown Posse. One of the first things on this video was an interview with (I believe) the band's manager. He said something to the effect of "once a kid listens to ICP's music and becomes a fan, the nature of the word fan is fanatic, and they never listen to any other music again." And from what I've caught skimming all of the posts, I know this isn't true of us as a crowd... we all listen to a variety of music, and most of us haven't even got one particular genre we're specific to. I did think, however, that a lot of the prior posts on this thread get at this thought... that maybe we're judging "new" fans by the fact that they listen to things we don't personally choose. Anyways. On a different note: Matt, Jason got his hat today. I'm so ashamed of how filthy it looks and feels... knowing I didn't try and stop him from wearing it out the door when we left Nashville.... oy. At any rate, thank you, many times over, from the both of us. Ya'all play nice now. Anyway... I was in that sardine-can turned elevator that Saturday morning (I think we all had too much pancakes/waffles/chicken sandwiches for breakfast... hahaha). My friend Rob, who was at the Sat nite concert and hung out in the room of intoxicated debauchery (well, more intoxication than debauchery, really), alias room 608 in the Ramada, is now one of the walking converted. After the Sat concert he says to me, "yeah, I think I could stand to buy one of their CD's...which one should I start with?" I suggested Live Noise, then go from there :^) My friend Chris, who was there most of the weekend but had to miss the Sat show because of waiting for mutual friend to arrive (he stopped at Casino Niagara.. that $^*$&^*%), loved everyone he met and had a great time. I'm always a little paranoid of "worlds colliding," i know Chris from a different circle of friends... but he had a great time. While I was teaching in Buffalo we got together for Dinner and talked for hours about the wonder of Fruvous and their fans :^) he's converted, alright! I LOVED Susan Werner, and wish I'd had a chance to speak with her. Went to Record Archive yesterday and picked up "Time Between Trains," whooo hooo for the hidden track, I was hoping that song was on there (well, I'm not spoiling anyone's surprise completely, so there!) Mindy/Fruchild... that was you who tripped over me at 6am when you left? (Lying on the floor, apparently on your purse) Sheesh, thanks for introducing us, guys... I feel so important now! *Big huge past tense hug for you Mindy* Phil, I'm completely and insanely jealous that I didn't get to debauch on the Schwan divan of happiness! *POUT* *wink* that's okay... _I_ was awake when Tobey stopped by the room Fri night (and my roommates thought I was kidding). :^) *ducks from flying fists of Schwan* Oh, and I must relay my tale of Saturday for you all (copied from a letter to a friend who couldn't make Frucon, and altered to fit your screen): *Cab Ride into work Someone of Middle Eastern Heritage, as we started towards work he began rewinding a tape, and I was dreading hearing some woeful jazz or something. Instead, it was what I can best describe as Persian Rock. Male and Female singing with snazzy music in the back. I was tempted to ask who and what the tape was, but changed my mind. What a way to start the day. *Picking up the car I had given my class an extra 1/2 hour, which turned into a 2 hr lunch because it took so long. When I got to the dealership I went to look at my car, and my dealer, Karl, had put a bunch of balloons on the wiper and a big tag that said, "Happy Motoring Angelique" He said he couldn't resist because I was as excited as a kid before Christmas on the phone :^) *2nd Nite's Performance Went very well, I must say. The accompanist started my song in the right key this time, I only goofed one line (by stepping on another person's), and have discovered that my counterpart (Ganster Vinny Canatuna) and I are scene stealers to the extreme. Another performer had a table full of family in attendance, but at curtain call "Vinny" and I got a much louder applause. Musta been his uni-brow and my Leopard-print dress. ;^} The funniest part, though, had to be the drive home. I'd been thinking since Friday night that I wanted to play "Get in the Car" as soon as I drove off the lot, but the car only has AM/FM stereo and my CD player isn't recording tapes right (can you imagine hearing Murray singing "Sad Today" at half speed? Frightening!). So, no Früvous initiation for my car... or so I thought. As I was heading home I turned on the radio and started thinking about an old friend Todd, which always has me think of WBER (Todd is a DJ there, last I heard Fri afternoons for the drive home), so I turned on WBER. I didn't pay much attention to the banter at first until I heard the DJ say, "here with Moxy Früvous..." I freaked! Again, I didn't catch the banter, but the intro to the live song... the mellow acoustic version of "Get in the Car." And they played it!!! Do you have any idea how freaked I was at that? It was awesome, but kinda scary at the same time, you know? I'm thinking they must have been replaying the interview from the studio visit during the Fall 1997 Tour or something. What an odd Saturday I had... it was wonderful but it was... odd.
