Ross said: >Hey! I have never drunk an alcoholic drink before in my life. The >rest I won't argue that much with ;) Okay, I had to jump in here. I'm a DMB fan (not to the Fruvous point or anything, but a fan nonetheless). I am not ashamed. I've got all the albums, I know most of the words, I've got a tee shirt which is no longer available and derive some sort of pride from that. To address DMB's music, I must say that Carter Beauford is the most amazing drummer in the world, and for anyone to deny his musicality is only out of lack of knowledge and full appreciation of his genius. To address his fans, truly, I will admit that at the last DMB concert I attended, there was an extremely high (huh huh huh) ratio of frat boys to non frat boys. There was also a bizarre number of Mormons (most of them from my school). There were also tons of "hippies" (in the loosest, 90's sense of the label, meaning those young people who A) do not bathe on a regular basis, B) wear pants that have been augmented with some sort of amateur patchwork, C) clearly have a disregard for brushes and combs, and D) are found under the influence of more than one kind of controlled substance at any given time). And, yes, "weed" and "brewskis" were being passed around with wild abandon. Basically what I'm trying to say is that regardless of their fan base, DMB is a good group of musicians, and while I understand that some people don't like "jam bands" (believe me, I can get a little bored when Phish plays an album-length song), I also would like people to note the coolness factor: they've got a sax and a violin for crying out loud! Name me one *really* popular band that can say that. And each one of those guys can really play his instrument. You are hard pressed to say the same about any other band in heavy rotation on MTV.
