An excellent point, and one that I often make when embroiled in Biblical debate on this and other issues. Indeed, those who can read the original, all of whom are scholars since neither of the original languages is used today, point out many instances where they cannot be sure of the meaning of a passage. I personally have trouble with the notion that the Bible was ever the "word of God," but when someone tells me that, say, The Good News Bible (an aggressively modern translation into "popular English" with a strong bent towards socially conservative theology) is the word of God, it's hard not to laugh. I think that the best that modern people of faith can do is to look at the Bible from a few steps away, seeking not verses that support what they already believe but rather seeking a wholistic view. Perhaps even trying to focus especially on passages that they find challenging, and trying to figure out how those passages fit in to the whole picture. - -- Thomas Taylor Philadelphia, PA thomas_taylor@bigfoot.com http://www.bigfoot.com/~thomas_taylor ------------------------------ Date: 14 Feb 1999 01:12:54 GMT From: bbwminors@aol.com (BBWMinors) Subject: Re: 9:30 Club Review (probably long) Petit-Chou wrote: <> Apparently Petit-Chou and I have VERY much similar taste in our hot men. :) QL ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Feb 1999 00:55:49 GMT From: bmcnamee@NOSPAM.yahoo.com (Brent McNamee) Subject: Meeting up at the Ramada Hi all!
