Being an all girls grammar school, we didn't have such an entity as a marching band, but if we did it would have been hard for me to play my speciality which was....... the timpani!! Kinda hard to carry round a field doncha think! For some bizarre reson, my fav tune was the trumpet voluntary- I seem to remember having an important part in that. BTW I was also in the school choir from the day I started at that school to the day I left 7 years later and got my grade 7 exam in singing. By the time I left, I was in 5 different choirs, a madrigal group, and had a regular duet partner who I performed with often. I also was asked to be a soloist many times for different occasions. My mum wanted me to be an opera singer and I was torn between that and being an artist- not sure who won that one! But that was many years ago now, and the only singing i do now is in the shower, or at church the one time of year I go, on Xmas eve to sing carols.Sad isn't it! Not sure that we'd have considered ourselves as nerds. We definately were't part of the 'cool' crowd, but we didn't care- we loved the music and did it for that reason. Also 'cool', 'nerd' & 'geek' were'nt part of our vocab. I actually think the 'cool' people felt a little envious when concerts came around as we were the ones getting all the attention, plus we had talent in an area they didn't- it was our chance to show off and be proud of ourselves Revenge of the bandmembers!
