It was unbelievable, the band was sooooo close by, and my friend and I couldn't believe that there were so many 'older' people there (30+), that's old for me, I'm only 16! Well, it would be *nice* if there were 500,000 copies of the indie tape out there, or that the band had instantly achieved what's platinum status in America, but that's a bit of a demand on Canadians. There are about 1/10th as many Canadians as Statesiders, so "gold" and "platinum" are 1/10th the American figure, accordingly. Just imagine, though, if one out of every 29 Canadians had a copy of Bargainville! I thought I missed a FruCon update or something... gus, this is just a talent show you're in? (It was gus, right? I'm so senile these days) I was gonna say... cause I had quite the talent show act after 'Crazy for You' Last fall... i did a dance routine to No No Raja that was quite... um, effective? 2) Mysterious Cities of Gold... I loved that show. That was definitely a guilty pleasure when it was on. It started out that I stumbled upon it, and watched an episode... then I was regularly home when it was on, then I made a conscious effort to try and be home when it was on. It had a simplistic anime style... but at the same time there was something rather sophisticated about it that I could never lay a finger on... 3) re Lee's tix... I got a panicked message from one of my FruCon travel mates about Tom's (?) post about not being able to get tix. I just ordered 3 tix from ticketmaster.ca for sat (and 3 for fri) and didn't get any message about the shows being sold out or anything. I just wonder if we're going to run into the same probs as Darien Lake had a couple of years ago when they (via ticketmaster, i believe) way oversold tix to the Dave Matthews band concert and traffic was backed up for hours. 4) Falcon Ridge? (as my wallet cringes and my credit card crawls deeper into it's pocket) hmmmm. i just need a camp stove... er, anyway... Guess that's it for now. Had another Fruvous dream the other night, but forgot to write it down and now can't remember the slightest bit of it... I'll have to ponder for a bit. Fruvously Yours, Kevin kevin@frumail.org ------------------------------ Date: 2 Feb 1999 18:20:40 GMT From: jon@mrrl.lut.ac.uk (Jon Knight) Subject: Outing Richard Butterworth On 2nd Feb 1999, Richard Butterworth sayeth: > [2] An attempt to flush out a lurker. That means *you* Jon! Well, well. So Mr Butterworth wants me to delurk does he? USENET traditionally requires one to actually subscribe to the newsfroup and, strange as this may seem, even get the froup at ones site before one can lurk and then delurk. However Richard has been so insistent on the efficacious influence of a.m.m.f. on his life in recent weeks that I felt compelled to peek at the goings on via Dejanews. Then today he goads me further by posting such nonsense as: > having two ou's in one word would be completely insane. Look at > Loughborough; everyone who has ever lived there is unutterably mad At this point our campus news meister added a.m.m.f (and the strangely quiet alt.fan.moxy.fruvous) to the campus news spool, thereby allowing a suitable response. And that response is simple: Richard is in denial. Really deep down Richard loved Loughborough. He loved bouncing up and down in an overheated student's union to music played by bands nobody has ever heard of. He loved living in an end of terrace house right next to a steam railway locomotive depot. He loved being in a University computer science department where the staples have individual barcodes. And he loved being in a town surrounded by the rolling Charnwood countryside (especially if it was snowy and he could laugh manically as friends hurtled to their near doom on rickety sledges from the top of Fox Hill[1]). Now that Richard lives in the Big Smoke[2] and works at a shiny New University he tries to hide his true feelings for Loughborough by the bravado of "Loughborough bashing". He tries to be cool and fit in with his new city chums, and make fun of the Midlands market town and its associated University that was his home for those salad days of long ago. However really, deep inside, he yearns to be in a town with no Marks and Spencers, be able to miss the last train back from Nottingham at 10pm on a Saturday night, be working in a University where the professors move office whilst they are on holiday. So ladies and gentleman of the newsgroup, please be gentle with young Richard. We need to help him come "out" with his true feelings and help him work through this current destructive stage of Loughborough bashing. With time and patience he can come to terms with how lovely Loughborough really is and how easy it would be to move back. He could also stop laughing at people who have lived here for 11 years or more out of choice. Oh, and I am most *certainly not* going to help him with starting an American spelling flame in this group. I think that newsgroup readers will now realise that such trolling is really all a part of his larger cry for help[3]. He must love American spelling as well really. Tatty bye, Jim'll [1] But that's another story. [2] London for those of you reading in American. [3] Richard should now have learnt a valuable lesson: don't dare a USENET oldbie to start a thread casually. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Feb 1999 18:40:33 GMT From: ross_hendry@bigfoot.com (Ross Hendry) Subject: Re: Danger Mouse On Tue, 02 Feb 1999 04:37:18 GMT, Caroline A Picker wrote: >This is kinda about an old thread- but I have a question- does anyone >remember Banana man- another one of those ten minute shows from England >(?) that aired in the same half hour segment as Danger Mouse, at least >when I was little? > Caroline > Yup, Little Eric eats a banana and turns into...Bananaman!
