I had been listening to a song that started with the line "the phone call from Montreal said..." and it had been getting me through some emotionally rough times. So, tonight at NoHo they mention how they like to do some odd things at the Iron Horse and they'd like do a song they've done maybe four times in four years called "Misplaced." Had no idea it was *that* song until they started playing it. Emotionally, this was my most difficult concert in a long time. I Will Hold On, Early Morning Rain and Misplaced all really spoke to me. Could've had something to do with wanting to have someone very special to me there, but she couldn't make it. While the emotional songs tonight were intense - watching Jian during the off-mic Drinking Song was heart-wrenching at times - the "happier" songs were something else entirely. Opening with Nowhere Man, throwing in a little bit of Cher ("Believe" - and those of you who didn't before will soon!), Pisco. I finally began to really enjoy Disco Bargainville - I wasn't too thrilled with it last time I saw it but this time was much better. Overall, I have to say it was very worthwhile. I like the Iron Horse and am going to have to go back as often as possible. Smoke-free, who'da thunk it? This year's much-awaited Fruhead Convention is approaching at an alarming rate (insert image of committee members popping valium). Among other heart-warming, toe-curling activities planned to entertain the frumasses during the Con, our team of trained experts specializing in... well, heart-warming and toe-curling activities, thought it would be peachy to have an OPEN MIC to let the talented among us show what they have previously only shown at family gatherings and/or to an unfortunate pet or spouse. Think you have what it takes? We're looking for anything Fruvous from parodies to covers to wacky versions of old favourites. Your song must be acoustic and of regular length, and a few mics will be provided. Your fate will be decided by a small panel composed of randomly picked conventioneers. If interested in performing, email us *BEFORE FEBRUARY 8* at openmic@fruhead.com with your NAME(S), the NAME and LENGTH of your SONG, and what your act is about. A few spots will remain free for day-of registration. Spots are assigned on a first come first served basis. If interested in being part of the PANEL, please *do not* email us: the panelists will be randomly selected by a draw at the Con. So come, come talented ones! I'm sorry all you folks are up in arms about it, but there simply wasn't any other place to ask it. Since wondering aloud about #budgiedog, Chad has emailed me and kindly explained the entire difficulty to me, but I wouldn't have known to email Chad in the first place. And obviously I'm not half as experienced on IRC as you, because I haven't the foggiest idea how to "deal with IRC difficulties on IRC". I certainly didn't mean to bring up any "animosities" by asking a question. I guess I just assumed that the people here were adult enough to distance themselves from this vague, weird rift that I'd sensed and describe it objectively to people like me who had no ideas what was going on. *I* don't have a problem with a particular person, I'm definitely "not involved" with the channel squabble(s); all I wanted to know (I think) is what #budgiedog is, why it was created, what goes on there, how it's different from #moxyfruvous, and - if anyone felt like talking about it, so that I could understand the vibes - a little bit of its history. The reason I "broadcasted" my question to the entire newsgroup is because I didn't know who in particular to ask. I certainly wasn't trying to "bring IRC dirt" into the ng. I'm sure that you're aware that the newsgroup exists as a forum for discussion about Moxy Früvous. I believe that an IRC channel devoted to MF falls into this category. It doesn't seem to me that an innocent question about IRC should cause so much angst. I'm sorry that it did, but I still believe that amm-f is the appropriate medium for fielding and answering questions like mine (last I checked, it wasn't in the FAQ. And I did check! :). And something *is* getting accomplished. (#budgiedog is a fun place!) peace, - -maryam- I'm going to take down the Christmas tree now. :) << Can we PLEASE keep this off the NG?? I am one of many who believes that IRC and the NG are two separate mediums. There are a few crossovers, but there are some NG'ers who are not #mf (#bd)'ers, and vice versa. If anyone has a problem with a particular person, be mature and bring it up WITH THEM instead of broadcasting it to the entire NG! Can we please keep IRC dirt in IRC? While it may be bitter/petty/wasteful-of-time for me to post this, the IRC-in-the-NG debate reminds me of something that happened recently. See, I've been in this web-based RPG for several months now. Because of the slow service and annoying banner ads that conquered the game's original page on Angelfire, our GM requested that my boyfriend and I make a new page, with my textual and art skills and his coding knowledge. We relocated to a new place, and redid the page very nicely, and it's beautiful and ad-free now. But for all the time he and I put into the new page, the GM doesn't want to GM anymore. Every time I asked him about it on AIM, he would change the topic, and finally he said he forgot his username and password to get to the messageboard, and wasn't going to think about it. That followed with the statement that he had better things to do than sit on the computer all day and talk to people, like his friends who live out-of-state... anyway, so I put a post for everyone to read on the Out of Character board in the RPG itself, asking if anyone knew what was wrong with our holy GM. Instantly he remembered his password and read it, sending me an email telling me I shouldn't post things like that in the board for the public to see. The point of my rant? I had to put it there, because he wouldn't answer my questions himself. Sure he got a little ticked, but I got pretty pissed myself when he told me he'd rather watch TV than talk to his friends whom he hasn't seen in months. So I placed a query on the public board for anyone else to freely answer. So I'm sure it's perfectly fine to discuss IRC business in the NG. Good gods, if we can talk about how Jian smells for months on end, we can surely put aside some time to talk about the channels. And if a few people don't know what we're talking about, they should be reminded that some of us don't know what they're talking about when they go on and on about shows some of us can't afford to fly across the country to see. Wow, I'm talky today. Must be something in the water. Heh. I was not saying not to discuss IRC on the NG. That was not the problem I had, Raenfaerie. This thread was not simply a question and answer one. It became a thread of IRCers attacking other IRCers. Dicussing IRC, the channels, and what goes on there is appropriate for the NG, but attacking IRCers for their stands and opinions actions is NOT. At this point, I don't care what goes on here or there, and I know that the only people I can tell what I think without being attacked and accused are the people I am close with. I have always thought that it's a damn shame that a technology with such friend-making potential is being used in such a manner. It is unfair that opinions are not respected here and people are recklessly attacked for having them. I apologize for those of you who come here to discuss the band and their music. And some of them don't. :) It's kinda hard to explain. Well, we're a spirit booster, but only really to the football team, the biggest thing in our school. We did have an undefeated season and make it to the SuperBowl this year, but wow, we sucked when we got to the Bowl. At least they got there.
