Of course, in Kingston, Jeopardy is on at both 7 & 7:30, so you can always dazzle and amaze your friends by knowing all the answers, when they sit down to watch the 7:30 one. I always liked it cause not only was Jeopardy on at both times, but the same rerun of Friends was also on at both times, so you could always manage to catch both shows. TPTB that program tv in Toronto managed to put boths shows on only once, at 7:30. So there's nothing on at 7, and then you have to make a choice at 7:30 (not that there is a choice....unless it's a really classic episode of Friends, or a rerun of Jeopardy which does happen occassionally). I really like cover songs. I mean, really really like them. It shows a little bit about what that band uses for inspiration, or what they like to listen to. I love listening to how another band interprets a song. I also really like when a band will come out with a second version of their OWN song! (MF-KoS , Eric Clapton-Layla, etc.) I don't know what it's like for talented musicians, but for me, when I learn a song, it's just soooooooo hard to try and change the style of it. For that my friend, I applaud you, shaloom (a la Bill McNeil-Phil Hartman) The only part that I don't like about cover songs, is when people think, wow , what a great new song. Without giving credit to the original artist. (Most recently, Gob's cover of Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones. I even had an argument with a kid the other day about how he thought old songs sucked, and I asked if he liked Paint it Black, he said it was awesome, and then wouldn't believe me when I told him it was originally a Stones song, argh). I'm not saying I want the artists to give credit to the original artist (because they do!) I just wish that more fans would look into that "great NEW song". How to live in a world that's politically correct? His workers no longer would answer to "Elves", "Vertically Challenged" they were calling themselves. And labor conditions at the North Pole Were alleged by the union to stifle the soul. Four reindeer had vanished, without much propriety, Released to the wilds by the Humane Society. And equal employment had made it quite clear That Santa had better not use just reindeer. So Dancer and Donner, Comet and Cupid, Were replaced with 4 pigs, and you know that looked stupid! The runners had been removed from his sleigh; The ruts were termed dangerous by the E.P.A. And people had started to call for the cops When they heard sled noises up on their roof-tops. Second-hand smoke from his pipe had his workers quite frightened. His fur trimmed red suit was called "Unenlightened." And to show you the strangeness of life's ebbs and flows, Rudolf was suing over unauthorized use of his nose And had gone on The Rosie Show, in front of the nation, Demanding millions in over-due compensation. So, half of the reindeer were gone; and his wife, Who suddenly said she'd enough of this life, Joined a self-help group, packed, and left in a whiz, Demanding from now on her title was Ms. And as for the gifts, why, he'd ne'er had a notion That making a choice could cause so much commotion. Nothing of leather, nothing of fur, Which meant nothing for him. And nothing for her. Nothing that might be construed to pollute. Nothing to aim. Nothing to shoot. Nothing that clamored or made lots of noise. Nothing for just girls. Or just for the boys. Nothing that claimed to be gender specific. Nothing that's warlike or non-pacific. No candy or sweets...they were bad for the tooth. Nothing that seemed to embellish a truth. And fairy tales, while not yet forbidden, Were like Ken and Barbie, better off hidden. For they raised the hackles of those psychological Who claimed the only good gift was one ecological. No baseball, no football...someone could get hurt; Besides, playing sports exposed kids to dirt. Dolls were said to be sexist, and should be passe; And Nintendo would rot your entire brain away. So Santa just stood there, disheveled, perplexed; He just could not figure out what to do next. He tried to be merry, tried to be gay, But you've got to be careful with that word nowaday. His sack was quite empty, limp to the ground; Nothing fully acceptable was to be found. Something special was needed, a gift that he might Give to all without angering the left or the right. A gift that would satisfy, with no indecision, Each group of people, every religion; Every ethnicity, every hue, Everyone, everywhere...even you. So here is that gift, it's price beyond worth... Now for the actual post. My friend Lis and I went roller skating today at the indoor rink. I had brought my CDs along to listen to in the car. Well, we got there, the music started, and everything was fine...until all the music started to sound the same. I decided it would be a good move to request a Fruvous song. Lis said that the last time she came here, she requested Michael Jackson and they didn't play it, and said they didn't take requests. But I decided to try anyway. So, I went to the DJ and asked "Do you have any Moxy Fruvous?" His reply "Who?" I said "Moxy Fruvous." Him: "Nope, sorry." Me: "If I give you a Cd will you play it?" Him: "Sure." Me: "Ok" So, thinking that this would be a great place for Splatter Splatter, I went and got the CD. All of a sudden Lis comes up and says "You know, Boo Time would be a really great song instead." So, I switched to YWGTTM, and gave it to the DJ guy. We waited for four songs. Just as Britany Spears finished up I hear "It's Boo Time!" Me and my friend both jumped at the same time. We skated to Boo Time, and it was a great atmosphere for it (Her brother and mother who were there with us liked the song). After it was over, and the Backstreet Boys came on, I went over to get my CD. The guy came out with a big smile on his face and said "Here you are! By the way, who were those guys again?" I said "Moxy Fruvous." He said "Ok. Thanks!" Hope! The saga continues... About an hour later my friend and I decide to press our luck again and request Billie Jean (I had my MJ CD with me) So we go to the guy again and ask if we can request another song. He looks at the CD and asks if these were the same guys as before. :-) We say "No, it's Michael Jackson. Could you play Billie Jean, Track 1?" He says sure, and we skate off. One song later our request comes on, and we skate merrily to it. Basically it was a cool thing, and I think the DJ dude might add another CD to the playlist (I hope I hope I hope!) Boo Time sounds really great in a skating rink... Alright, enough babbling.
