Most likely the channel was started by someone who uses Dalnet all the time but wouldn't mind talking to fruvous fans occasionally. If you are a channel op or have alot of friends on a non-undernet server, you're not going to want to open another program just to talk to fruvous people on undernet. Even though I don't know anything about it, I doubt that the channel was started as a rival channel. I'm an op on Undernet #tmbg and there is also an Efnet #tmbg which I think came first. Undernet just happens to be where i've been hanging out for the past 3 years and if the "original" #moxyfruvous had begun on another server, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have ever visited. Um, simply put i think saying that a #moxyfruvous on another server is a sign of the apocalyspe (that's what your post sounds like) is overreacting just a bit. One I stuffed in the notebook and kept.... the line "The dog ran like an old goat with the vest pinned to his tail and a lemon on his head" was Lindsay's fault, I think, and my favorite in-joke line had to be "Mary Susan as 'No Hair!' is a new movie and it's terrible!" That sucks. I am all for the idea actually, the main reason is this... net preference! Lots of people... like me... find channels by going to #whatever, I was lucky that #mf was on Undernet of I would never have found it, and even if I did find it on a different net, I would never have switched. There are still lots of fruvous fans with the net out there, that haven't joined the group, and never will, this way we can at least get some more of them. So what if the people who prefer DalNet meet there? I don't feel any pressure to know every single Moxy Fruvous fan. There will always be new people I don't know and veteran fans I don't know. There are always going to be groups of fans outside of the main fruhead circle. As the band's popularity grows, there will be more and more people outside that circle. By all means, invite them to join the Undernet channel or to meet here, tell them about FruCon, but don't get upset because they wanted to pay tribute to a band we all love in a different IRC meeting place. Be happy that Fruvous will get some free PR there.
