You know, sometimes it really makes me angry how many rad teachers I've had in the past that get held back by "the administration." I often see those "America's Greatest Teacher" specials on the Disney Channel and they make me really sad, because for every one of those people, there are, like, eighty-gabillion teachers that are not being recognized for the good they do. I can recall the names of all of my teachers, but I can jabber on for hours about the ones that affected my life a lot. I mean, there's the student teacher that came with his wife to see my band perform at a JSA (Junior Statesman of America - Debate-like club) Benefit (and introduced me to Moxy Fruvous, no less). There's the English teacher that made us WANT to write something worthwhile. There's the creative writing/literary magazine/English teacher that makes all other writing teachers pale in comparison. And so on. And so on. Maybe it's cause I've always been the kind of person who talks to my teachers and hangs out with them after class, but I don't think so. I think these teachers touch innumerable kids, and NEVER get acknowledged, and worse, get stifled by "THE MAN." So this is what I say to you. Take a cue from William Goldman (who, according to legend, sent a copy of The Princess Bride to Mrs. Rognowski, his elementary school teacher), and write a note to those teachers.
