So my question is....are they? Are any of you BNL > fans? I am very much a BNL fan, but not in the same way as I am a Fruhead. I'm a BNL fan like I'm a Sarah Mclachlan fan, or a Ben Fold's fan. I have more CDs than you can shake a stick at (9 BNL, 12 Ben Folds Five) and I keep a lookout for EPs and stuff I don't have. When people are wondering what to listen to and I'm in a BNL mood, I'll put on Gordon or Maybe You Should Drive. But with Fruvous (and TMBG, and some other things like Goats - http://www.goats.com) I pretty much bug people until they try it and either they like it or don't. I'll travel far and wide for Fruvous, but I've never seen BNL. I participate in Fruvous stuff on the net, TMBG too. BNL not so much. As far as similarities between BNL and Fruvous, kinda. I mean, they are both Canadian. They are both intelligent and have good lyrics. They both started as Indie musicians that thrived on creativity and working together as a group instead of being drop dead outstanding musicians. But both bands have gotten a lot tighter musically as their careers went on. But to me, the similarities end there. BNL is pop (pop is not a bad word in the Dictionary of Chad by the way) where Fruvous ranges all over the place. I haven't seen BNL live (and I don't figure seeing them now would be like seeing them "before") except for seeing them on some TV thing, but it seems to me BNL targets more on the music than Fruvous does. But I really like both bands' music and I listen to both a good amount. I would go to a BNL concert if I had a chance, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go. But I do go out of my way to see a Fruvous show... - Chad ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Jan 1999 18:00:06 GMT From: gemini@p3.net (Trace) Subject: Re: Guilty Pleasures [was Spice Defamation] On Wed, 13 Jan 1999 13:57:50 GMT, Angie Armstrong wrote: >Here are a few of mine: >- Duran Duran (classic 80's through "Arcadia") Oh you have company Angie! (not spam) Hi everyone... Thought I'd let you know about a wonderful movement that I'm part of...we need everyone's help here in NYC to repeal the city's Cabaret Laws that requires a club to have a license TO ALLOW AUDIENCES TO DANCE!! Read the following manifesto: DANCE LIBERATION FRONT MANIFESTO This is a communique from your local DANCE LIBERATION FRONT. This past October 24, 1998, combined elements of Guiliani's Imperial Consumer Affairs and police forces padlocked the restaurant theatre space known as Baby Jupiter on the corner of Orchard and Stanton Streets for purported violations of NYC's Cabaret Laws. The mayor says New Yorkers must have a license to permit dancing. The D.L.F. says, LICENSE?! WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING LICENSE! You thought stories about the illegality of dancing were the stuff of science fiction, of Kevin Bacon movies, of small midwestern towns. You thought you were safe. You thought wrong. Who has the right to decide what and what is not dancing? Didn't Modern Dance push any pre-conceived definitions of dance out the window? Would Baby Jupiter have been closed had the patrons been hopping? Skipping? Doing the robot? Minimal interpretive dance? We owe it to ourselves to not take this lying down. If we allow the Giuliani administration to infringe upon our right to dance, what's next? No touching? No laughing, talking or smiling? And finally, no drinking?! In defense of our right to dance, your local D.L.F. staged a DANCE ACTION this past Saturday night. For 15 glorious minutes, D.L.F. dance commandos and our supporters created a "LIBERATED DANCE ZONE" CONGA LINE straight down Avenue A to Thompkins Square Park. Ladies and gentlemen, WE GOT A GROOVE ON! Expect impromptu DANCE ACTIONS throughout the City. Is anyone up for dancing? The steps of City Hall seem like a nice place for a Limbo contest, or perhaps the Hokey Pokey. Fellow New Yorkers, resist tyranny in all forms. Support your local DANCE LIBERATION FRONT! We say black people are gonna dance...white people are gonna try to dance...the Chinese are gonna get down and the Spanish are gonna Mambo. TOGETHER, UNITED, WE ARE ONE BOOGIE NATION!!!! MR.
