I've worn the same scent for the last 20-plus years but it was discontinued about four or five years ago (it's called Andiamo by Borghese and I can't even begin to describe it except that it's kind of vaguely oriental but my arms smell of gingerbread for hours after I put it on). I tried to buy up all I could find and I do have four bottles left but am now kind of searching for a new scent. Anyway, I discovered this awesome company in Canada (there! Fru-content!) called Lush and I adore all of their products that I've tried so far -- mostly bath stuff. They do have a cologne called Karma but I'm afraid to spend money on a perfume that I've never tried. Since I know there many Canadian NG members who have probably frequented Lush (and please tell this company I have already hinted broadly to my husband that what I want for Valentine's Day, our 15th anniversary and my 40th birthday are more and more Lush gift certificates), can you give me any idea of what Karma is like (no joke!)? Anyway, don't worry, I'm tying this in with the Literary Musicians thread here...Belle and Sebastian mention Jack Kerouac, Mark Twain, and Dostoevsky in their songs, and I read somewhere that there are C.S. Lewis quotes on their second album, but I'm not sure what they are... I though of other stuff, but it was all poetry set to music: Patti Smith's "Footnote to Howl" (Allen Ginsberg) Phil Ochs' "The Highwayman" (Alfred Noyes) and "The Bells" (Edgar Allen Poe) Tom Rapp/Pearls Before Swine's "I Shall Not Care" (Sara Teasdale) and, oh wait..."Einstein's Daughter" by the Nields is named after a book of the same name by Michele Zackheim...and there's a Heavenly song that talks about Nick Hornby (my favorite, favorite author--anyone else read "High Fidelity"?)...and my dad told me that Shawn Mullins wrote a whole song about Richard Brautigan. "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits. My dad contributes "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" by Van Morrison (from "The Wind in the Willows") and the reference to Dante in Bob Dylan's "Tangled up in Blue."
