Much nicer than I had thought it was going to be. When we came outside after the NYE show, there were a couple of drunk people swaggering on home, yes, but it was mostly peaceful and not as riotous as one might have thought. Granted, Times Square must have been another thing entirely, but we spent a whole weekend in the city (between the upper West Side and lower East Side, so a lot of the city, even) and managed to avoid it. It was quite nice. - -v, who lived in Queens for two years and in Manhattan for several months over the last several years and thinks New York City gets too much bad rep. It's not any worse than, say, Boston on NYE. As long as you aren't stupid enough to go into Central Park at 3am, you know? Seems to me that if the Time Out people were expecting a rock band, even a Canadian one, then they would naturally feel wretched about what they got -- something that didn't fit into their pathetically narrow set of categories. If they went looking for a theatrical/musical/comic/literary event, they would have been more pleased. Some people just can't deal when their expectations are confounded. Think of it this way -- nothing is for everyone, and you wouldn't like it as much if it were homogenized so that everyone would like it.
