But as an aside -- and I am sure that this is NOT where they got the name -- I was doing a websearch for something totally unrelated and came across a site for, you guessed it, "Queen Lisa" who is some sort of famous WWF wrester's sidekick/spokesperson. I have been having a ton of frumoments in the past two or three days. Not sure if it's coincidence or simply that at this point all of the lyrics are so firmly engraved on my subconscious that everything I hear will somehow tie into something. I went to see Dan Bern this summer in Philly. He is sort of known as "the guy who got banned for the Philly Folk Festival" around here - which draws an odd crowd. Anyway, Dan is generally very accomodating. Has even asked for requests in the past. But there was a small crowd of guys who spent much of the evening screaming out "Missing Link." (the song that got him banned) So, okay, someone screams it once. I'm sure Dan takes note of that and considers playing it. But not at that exact second. So, it's screamed again and again and again. Not just between songs, mind you, *DURING* them. Until Dan looks like he's torn between leaving the stage or just bashing someone over the head with his guitar. But, he's a professional. He states that he will *not* be playing that song now or at any other point in the night thanks to these guys and that no amount of shouting will get the song played. Shouting out requests can and does really get out of hand. Occasionally, you'll get a moment where it's okay, but for the most part, you should just try to comfort yourself with the knowledge that the band does try to come up with a unique show - not only night after night, but also trying to keep it different from the last time that played that area. That's pretty darn impressive. As much as I wish for their success and wish for a world-wide appreciatio= n of their music, I wouldn't want Moxy Fr=FCvous to become "huge." The reason= for this can be summed up in one word: Papparazzi (sp??). = I wouldn't dare to be so presumptious as to speak for the band, but I kee= p thinking of "Wood" and that so much represents the emotional, sensitive, soulful side of the band?... Turning, I walked in a daze toward the source of the song. It was Abacrombe & Finch, a clothing store. I walked into the store, listening to the Fruvous coming out of their speakers. A young woman walked up to me and said, "can I help you?" I stared at her in shock for a second, and exclaimed: "You're playing Moxy Fruvous!" She nodded and backed away, fear showing in her eyes. Realising she had no idea what I was talking about, I looked at clothes until the song ended, and when the next song came on (which wasn't Fruvous) I left.
