The movie was very good, and the costumes gorgeous, and the set...and everything, and very dramatic. Here was the problem with me watching this serious movie. Everytime one of her advisors mentioned a marraige proposal Elizabeth had recieved, I started giggling! Why? Mais, oui, it was from the King of Spain. They never mentioned his name, just kept saying "Perhaps you should consider the king of Spain's proposal" Ah, well, it was very cute. ~Joni ~*~~*~~*~ "Time cannot break the bird's wing from the bird, bird and wing together go down, one feather. Now, I think a slight summary is in order, lest the actual point get lost in all those pretty words: 1. Don't reply or post in anger. You'll end up looking like the narrator in Michigan Militia. Even if you're right. I mean left. I mean right. You get the picture. 2. When considering an off-topic post, remember that this group represents the band. "In what way, Amanda?" you must be saying, but consider this: The liner notes for some of the Fruvous CDs list this group as a resource. Jian mentions FDC at every show, and sometimes he mentions the newsgroup as well. In posting here, we represent Moxy Fruvous. If a new person reads the group and finds a bunch of random posts with no FruContent, he or she may leave with a less than favorable impression. We don't want that. Of course there will be off-topic posts, we're all human, and we all have outside interests that don't relate to Fruvous. But when posting off-topic, weigh the relevance. An example of a good off-topic thread might be one about voting, or an indie music group. I'm sure each of us could cite an example of a bothersome off-topic thread. 3. Be patient with new people. Tell them where to find the FAQ. Offer to help revise the FAQ if you see new questions coming up. If you notice a new person on the group, a person who has a voice you enjoy, drop that person a note saying "Hey, I noticed you. Welcome." 4. If you see a person at a show who looks a little bit lost, introduce yourself. This will do more to dispell the clique thing than anything else. Despite the overall friendliness around here, I found it difficult to get settled in. Joining the IRC channel--which I did shortly after the Wilmington show when I managed to talk to Wendy, whom I'd met at the Baltimore show--helped me to assimilate more than the six shows I attended this year. I doubt that this will be true for everybody, and it takes all kinds to make a community, but just think about the few points I've made here. It's up to the established people on the group to set an example. - --Amanda "I have a hard time distinguishing between right and left; therefore, it is physically impossible for me to do the Hokey Pokey." - -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Nov 1998 00:50:39 -0500 From: "npk" Subject: Re: Smarties Tobler's Chocolate Orange. I just thought that some of you might be interested in the new album by my one-man-band NSPS (formerly Nutra Sweet pixie Sticks), Those Wacky Crazy Canadians. The album has been in the making for two years and features art work by Torontonites Alex Gershon (cover design) and Michael Rose (brother of Katherine Rose, cowriting a song). There are low-quality sound samples of early demos of the songs on the page at http://members.tripod.com/~Jeremyly as well as an secure ordering of the tape and pre-order on the CD. My vocals aren't on par with Fruvous (especially on the demos!), but the music comes from somewhat similar angles. I'd appreciate anyone who might be interested checking it out. Thanks a lot! They're not quite as goofy on YWGTTM as Bargainville, but they resume that more eclectic and upbeat musical style, rather than the softer, more soulful feel of Wood. Truly, though, it's somewhere in between the two, just closer to Bargainville, in my mind. Others may tell you differently, however. As another clue to what it sound like, several of the tracks on Live noise are off YWGTTM, such as Michigan Militia, I've Gotta Get a Message to You, Boo Time, and No No Raja.
