Subject: I feel a strange bond now. I'm amazed and somehow buoyed by the thought that my little posting about The Drinking Song has had such a response. I figured most people would think I was being a gloomy-Gus and delete. Instead, people are discussing things no one really addresses enough (ie. DARE is a scare tactic, even if it comes from a valid concern, and a tactic Big Brother's Junior Spies could only wish were real). Thank you for listening to me: it had been something I wanted to get off my chest. ...and as this is supposed to be about the band, come to the Clinton shows! (Really Long, but maybe worth it) I didn't write reviews for the Rochester or the 1st Buffalo show, but I was there. I may at some point write reviews, but I doubt it. All I can say about The second Buffalo show is Wow.... After showing up with a bunch of Fruvous Vetearns in tow, I went about seeing who else was there. I won't remember everyone, so I'm not gonna list everyone. We all know if we were there or not. Anyway. The tickets said the doors opened at 8:00pm, but as I was coming back to my place in line, I noticed the doors were open, and it looked like they were going to be letting people in soon. I hurried back to my place in line, and waited. Soon after the line was moving very rapidly, and we were in. Since I wasn't the sitting kind of Fruhead, I grabbed a place on the floor, stage Murray. I think this is the first time I've ever been to a show where the doors opened early. I not complaining at all. Sarah Slean opened for the guys. We all stayed seated for the set. I couldn't see her at all, because she hid behind the piano, which was in my perspective behind the Drum set, but I did see her foot tapping a couple of times. She played an amazing 45 minute set. I definitely would recommend anyone going to see her. At about 9:25, Moxy Fruvous started their set. Opening: Extended Sahara: It was really great to hear this. I kinda missed it. It was rocking as usual. Half as Much: Another great song, I hadn't heard in a couple of shows. I am really begining to like this song. It really has grown on me. Jockey Full o' Burbon: I Love this song!!! (although I could concievably say this about every song they do) I Love My Boss: Excellent (I'm probably gonna run out of Positive Descriptive words soon) Stuck in the 90's: with George Pataki reference. Jian opened the song talking about how there isn't really much of a difference between Republicans and Democrats Horseshoes: With the Piano again!!!! I really wish every place they played had one. I love it! Grudge: A New Song!!!! This song also had Mike on the Piano. Murray sang lead for most of the song. I really can't describe it, except to say it was really Great! I hope they will play it in the next few shows. (After the guys asked what we thought of it. Lots of applause. Then Mike asked how we would like it if they speeded it up, and added Congo's. Some more applause. Mike replied: wrong Answer) Darlington Darling: I'm not used to hearing this song until the end, so it caught me off guard. Cheek to Cheek: A great song with Dave on Piano. I really felt like dancin'! Sad Girl: With the piano once again. I really hope this song gets on the new album. If it doesn't, I'll be really Sad. Pisco: I was going to try and spell Bandito, but its 230am, and I prolly spelled it wrong. I tried showing my friend the Pisco Dance, but I didn't convey it very well. Cross Boarder Shopping: Yey!! They mentioned they weren't sure if they'd remember all the words, but It came out great. They also mentioned the decreasing value of the Canadian dollar, and that it was cheaper to go to the Duty Free Shops at the boarders. Spider Man: Mike got up on the Piano Bench for the start of this one. BooTime: With references to Buffalo and Live Noise. (Buffalo Lyrics being the same ones from the version on Live Noise. ) Michigan Militia: Banjo Time!!! Present Tense Tureen: I love the Banjo. I really need to get one and learn to play it. Johnny Saucepan: (insert favourite positive discriptive word!) I Will Hold On: I love this song. Jian had trouble starting the song. I don't know if he forgot the words, or had problems hearing Dave or what. They ended up stopping and then bantering about how their tele-promters stopped working. After all that they played the song! River Valley: I can't even tell you the last time I remember hearing this song. Get In the Car: Good. I don't think they broke any Guitar strings tonight on this song. END: Psycho Killer: They did break one on the Les Paul here though. Encore 1: Homeward Bound: I can't believe I've heard them do this song 3 times within the last 5 shows I've been to. It was just Jian and Mike. King of Spain: The crowd really got into this one. With Sabres References. Encore 2: Allison: I love this song. It's my favourite non-Fruvous tune. The only song that was missing from the Iron Horse shows. Incredible! At the end, Cal started to play the King of Spain Remix, but Jian motioned for him to stop. Encore 3: Substitute: Wasn't supposed to be played. Jian meant that he just didn't want the KOS remix, not that the show wasn't over. I wasn't complaining! All in all a Awesome show. If any of you made it this far, pat yourself on the back, I really didn't mean to type this long. About the show.... All I can say is. WOW! Daniel "signature currently under construction... Alright, I haven't checked all of the ng since leaving on thursday, so I'm sure I'm not the only one posting a review of the Roch/Buffalo shows. This'll just be my thoughts and travlelog mostly since being in a fru trance for 3 days left me with a very vague memory of the set lists. So...on we go..... Left Fredonia at 12:30 Thursday after skipping out early from a welding lesson in sculpture. By the luck of the gods I made it into rochester by 2:00!!!!! (this ahd got to be a record of some sort). After throwing in the required load of laundry at my house (mandatory every time I go home) picked up my buddy Eric and did some much needed book shopping before arriveing at Harro East at around 6ish. There were already a small group forming and I chatted with Kim and Andi before getting my first sound of an incredibly talented local group called SMNMNMNM. Before I go further, i must give these guys a plug. They were awesome, talented and had great humor!!!! They sound (to me) like a funny ska-esque They Might Be Giants..though that might have been just because of the brass I heard on the demo tape they gave me...btw...if anyone out there is interested in hearing these guys...e-mail me and I'll copy my tape for you...the band asked all of us who recieved their tape to copy it for as many people as we know so e-mail me and hear this great up-n-coming band. Anyway, back to fruvous. This was my first time going to Harro East and can I just say that next time the guys come to town...PLEASE pick a different location if possible. I can understand that the Harro may be open and big (kinda sorta) but the people there and were just very rude and the place itself reminded me of my old high school auditorium (which is not saying a whole heck of a lot). I'm not too familiar with the venues of downtown Roch (sad, seeing as I've lived here all my life) but there has GOT to be a better place to hold a band such as fruvous!! The set was standard. The guys started out with a bunch of energy and were playing happily until some idiots started throwing stuff on stage. Someone lobbed a broken battery and it cut Jian's hand. After this there was a considerable plumet in the energy level. the banter almost completly stopped, except for the usual intros to various songs. After a while, they guys seemed to enjoy themselves, but that incident left a permenent black spot in my mind. Highlights include the traveling moon that made it to the balcony and back during YWGTTM. The lightsaber was a nice touch :-) Also, during Minnie, Mike made a point to play around with and sing to a little red fox (owned by yours truly). I was on the floor laughing at this point. Kudos also go to Mike for the great depression song improv while Jian ran off stage to get a band-aid. The night ended with Drinking Song which, if one could ingore the rude drunk people, brought tears to my eyes. After the show, Eric and I hung around and listen to SNMNMNM jam some more outside, next to the frubus. Have I said already that these guys rock!! Guys, if you read this, me thinks SNMNMNM would be a killer opening act some day *hint hint*. I delivered "very important messeage" from Fredonia's Rocky Horror Fan Club (I was kinda the middle man seeing as the original messanger got very ill during the show and asked me to deliver the note) to Jian and generally hung out and started to place faces to names I keep seeing here on the NG *waves to all I met*. We made a mandatory pit stop at a diner for some much needed food before a dropped Eric and off and headed home to my own bed (!!!!!) around 3:00 am. All in all a great show, but a lousy crowd (fru-heads and nice people not included) that put a small damper on the night. Part II - Swooning in Buffalo....coming soon to a NG near you. Amy - player of the recently dubbed fru-flute and owner of a little red fox named Jian *stop laughing!* "It's not forbidden to be what you are. Dip into that great big cookie jar!" ~Moxy Fruvous "'If' is the middle word of life, man!" ~Murray Foster "Alright! Who fruvoused the cat!" ~Mike Ford ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V1 #983 ********************************************
