SINCE WHEN?!?!? I can understand them not allowing VIDEO cameras... but cameras in general? I have a year's worth of 8x10's printed up from my photography courses in college, and a good chunk of those include Frutrips. I don't believe I was ever asked to stop, in fact the one time I was it was by a member of the campus crew where they were playing (Algoma) and I was also told at that time that if I checked with the guys first it would be fine... which it was... so now I'm curious. Seems unlikely > (especially the "took them to a show" scenario), but... Actually, everyone I have ever come into contact with in real life has been a potential convert. I would say my first failure was shortly after Bargainville, I dragged my friend Jill to a show in Toronto and she absolutely HATED it. I think it was more that she was expecting to find love or something, but whatever her reasons, she refuses to let me play any Fruvous around her. My first really good roommate at college was the same way -- wanted nothing of it, and wanted me to keep my obsession with it to the hours when I had the room to myself, as she was asked to do with her obsession for one stupid country song (but heck she was from Houston TX, so what do you expect there) and my most recent failure was my latest ex-boyfriend, who merely tolerated my love of Fruvous, refused to even TRY a live show, and has since made a grand effort of trying to unload the 'b' CD I gave him. But don't be sorry about the failed converts -- for those three failures, I've got over 100 friends in 8 states who're actively Frutripping or at least begging for a show near enough to justify leaving work early. Anyone? The sad fact of the matter is that they can be distracting to the band. At the last show I was at (which did allow non-flash photography), some people continuted to shoot flash photos even after Jian commented about it on stage. After seeing that, I don't think it's too much to ask. After all, as I understand it, the no photos policy is just for the two (special) Iron Horse shows. j! - -- Fnord is the feeling in your brain when you hold your breath too long. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Oct 1998 04:53:12 GMT From: cos@wbrs.org (Ofer Inbar) Subject: Re: Directions to the Iron Horse? jharrima@emerald.tufts.edu (Joshua I. Somerville -> Iron Horse is a drive I do about once a month, so I ought to be able to help here. :) > Is it right off of the Mass Pike (aka I-90 for all of you > non-Massachusetts folks), or am I completely off? Well, nowhere in MA (except the Cape) is *that* far from the Mass Pike, but you are a bit off. Here's how to get there from the Pike. - Take the Pike west to exit 4, I-91 - Get on I-91 north. [Pay attention! After the toll booths when you leave the pike, there's a fork, left for I-91. Then, *keep right*. There will be another fork where you have to go right for 91 north or stay straight ahead for 91 south, and the sign that tells you so is only about 50 feet or so before the fork. It's easy to not notice until it's too late to slow down and veer right.] - 91 north to the first Northampton exit, route 5 - At the end of the ramp, there's a light, turn left onto route 5 - Route 5 will lead you, within minutes, to Northampton center, which is the intersection of route 5 and route 9. - At Northampton center, turn left. There's a left turn signal. The first right after you turn onto route 9 is the little side street where the Iron Horse is. There's a church on the corner. The Iron Horse is less than a block away from the main street (route 9). You're more likely to find parking if you just keep going on the main street, and turn somewhere else, but try your luck wherever. Parking in Northampton early on a Saturday evening is often hard to find. Driving time from Davis Square to Northampton center is about 105 minutes, however, plan on 2 hours because of Saturday evening traffic, plus another 15 minutes to find parking. > Also, what type of place is it? Are there seats? Should I plan on > eating there? etc. Any info would be appreciated. The Iron Horse is a restaurant as well as a live music venue. If you're familiar with Johnny D's in Davis Square (probably not, it's 21+), the concept is similar. There's a central area that can be a dance floor for shows designated as danceable, or which is filled with tables and chairs for sit-down shows. Around it, and on the wraparound balcony, there are always tables and chairs. For sold out shows, not everyone necessarily gets a seat, so if you do want to eat make sure to be there when doors open at 5:30 so you can get seated. -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@leftbank.com cos@cs.brandeis.edu -- The Left Bank Operation -- lbo@leftbank.com http://www.leftbank.com/ "24 hour parking this side even days of month begins at 8:30am.
