You may not like the tenor of the discussion, but it brings forth important ideas. People may become aware that they are using stereotypes, or that perhaps their arguments would be stronger if they didn't resort to vast generalizations (I'm not intimating here that anyone did mind you, I'm staying neutral on that issue, but the point is still very valid.) I don't really think anyone in this discussion has been that uncivil, but you may, and so you've said so, and that is good. Everyone else here can decide what they think based on what they've read. As for me, I'm comfortable with just saying something like "hey you're using a stereotype" when I think someone is. I don't HAVE to get angry when I feel I'm being demeaned.
