Hi Kevin!! Welcome to alt.music.moxy-fruvous. We got a welcome wagon from hell around here, so watch out. It may run you over shortly. Firstly (and most importantly), go check out http://www.fruvous.com. It has information on everything Fruvous from Tour Dates and Articles to Show Reviews and Merchandise. The Tour Dates page is as up to date as the band is, so it is a very very helpful thing on all your Fru-planning needs. Secondly, pop music? What? Sometimes I guess. There actually is another thread on what to call Fruvous music so as to not confuse people and get them to hear you out. Glam folk is always safe... Thirdly, welcome again! - Chad ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Oct 1998 08:33:58 PDT From: "Glen -Skip- Newell" Subject: MID WEST FRU-FEST (WAS it's a Fru-World after all...) A thought occured to me just lately and I decidedc to toss it upon the water and see what rose from the depths of the NG... If our presence on the NG is any indication of even a percentage of FruFans West of the Mississippi and south of (Canadian) border, then probably there is even more demand for a return of the frulads than even we suspect. . . on the basis of this assumption, I'm going to suggest... THE FIRST ANNUAL MID-WEST FRU FEST ... Featuring appearances by the former 'KING OF SPAIN' and the infamous host of late-night cooking shows, Johnny Saucepan. . . but seriously. . . out of personal prejudice and convienience I'm thinking of centering the thing in Denver, Colo,(often called the TORONTO OF THE SOUTH) and aiming for a late-spring-early -summer date. SO... to get the ball rolling, can I get a roll call of local fru-heads ? you may email me privately at skipworthy@hotmail.com ( my newsgroup access is a little flaky) Please be sure to include your city , how far you'd be willing to travel for an event like this, and what dates mught be best. If nothing else, this should be an interesting exercise. *lol* Skip Denver " Breathe in, Breathe out...the rest is easy..." ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Oct 1998 15:45:56 GMT From: Amy Schrader Subject: Re: February Warm Up Subject: Re: February Warm Up nmwallis@yesic.com wrote: > > Here's the thread, not new or novel but... > Who would you love to see open for Fruvous in February? > > My votes: > Tory Cassis > Melanie Doan I believe this is already being worked on, However just for fun: I'll second Tory and Melanie, and I'll add: Big Rude Jake The Paperboys. I wasn't grousing at you for reviving it. Don't worry too much about stepping on peoples toes. If you really do step on toes, you'll know it. I've just agreed to go to Paris for New Years Eve, which of course means I'll miss seeing my favourite canadians (and, more to the point, their fans!) So now I *have* to figure out a way to get to frucon... hint in advance: my birthday is that weekend! So I can take my birthday holiday on either the friday or the monday... flying in and out of Toronto, with the time difference, means I'm going to have to miss *something*... so what days are the most people planning on being there, what tickets do I need to start thinking about *now* (I'll deal with the airfare after I pay for the Paris tix!), and, well, who wants to share a hotel room with me? (hint number two: will reward massages with gourmet chocolate...) ____ \ /__ Caitlin Xantha Hazen \/ / caitlin@wayward-volvo.org \/ http://www.wayward-volvo.org/xanthe.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Oct 1998 16:12:41 GMT From: cricket5@hotmail.com Subject: Re: February Warm Up In article <70klve$jv9$1@nnrp1.dejanews.com>, nmwallis@yesic.com wrote: > Here's the thread, not new or novel but... > Who would you love to see open for Fruvous in February? > > My votes: > Tory Cassis > Melanie Doan I'll second these two. Particularly Tory - I'll probably be heading up to Toronto early just to catch him playing trumpet with the Swing Gang at Barcode. But I'd love to hear him actually sing whether it's solo or with his band. (Btw, folks in the Toronto area can catch him at his weekly Saturday night show at the Reservoir Lounge. See Now club listings for details on Tory's shows and the Swing Gang at http://www.now.com/forms/clubs.html) And I'll add a 3rd into the mix: Sarah Slean - not because I think her music necessarily goes with Fruvous, but because I'm selfish and would like to see her play again. :-) Anyone would arrived early to Taste of the Danforth saw her perform before the Walton's. For those who don't yet know Sarah, she's Toronto-based and plays piano, generally with some other cool string instruments backing her up. She has a Tori Amos quality to her voice, but a lot less angry. Whether or not, she opens for Fruvous, you should all go buy her CD. /plugs *grin* Mary cricket5@hotmail.com - -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Oct 1998 16:31:17 GMT From: "A.J. Thanks! Josh, if you are asking these questions, then there are others out there asking them as well, so a public response is very much in order. Let's see... COST Costs would include transport of some kind to Toronto (Train, Bus, Thumb), Lodgings of some ilk (Hotel, Floor, Cardboard box in an alley), Food (buy, bring, or hunt), and tickets to the shows (No choices there). It would also be handy to have some extra of the blue, green, and bronze stuff to pay for other activities such as beer, poutine, hockey, theatre, and paying taxes on all of the above. NUMBERS Well, last year there were just over one hundred head cases who journeyed to Toronto for the first ever frucon. You can bet there will be more this year, but nobody know how many, since there isn't much of a history to draw on yet. LODGING Good is a relative term. Good can mean comfortable (i.e. expensive) or it can mean cheap (i.e. not so comfortable). It will be a good thing for bunches of people to stay in the hotel where the con is held. I'm told this makes them more favorable towards helping us out with convention services. If that is too rich for your blood, there are some less expensive (Around 70-90 Dollars CDN) hotels to be found scattered around the city. If you have a car, you can stay out in the suburbs where it is much cheaper, but that is no fun at all. Moving on down the scale there are several hostels in Toronto. Some people stayed in one of them last year, and so far as I know, all survived and are doing very well in their therapies. One hostel I know of is Siesta Neuvaux (sp?) which has a web site somewhere you can check out. (Haven't stayed there personally). Then the other option is to befriend one of the fruheads that actually LIVE in Toronto. They will, no doubt, have many people crashing with them. WHAT THE HELL ELSE DO YOU DO FOR FOUR DAYS? Well, last year it wasn't four days by any means. There was a little convention (basically a party) on Saturday, with a show that evening. Other than those two events: Some people who got there early went to The James Joyce Pub on Friday night and, I'm told, embarrassed themselves thoroughly. At some point some people went to see a play, and I believe a few others did the Hockey Hall of Fame. Me, I shopped. This year there are multiple shows, more people are expected, and more planning is going on, so I'd imagine there will be more organized activities. In any case, there is never a lack of things to do in Toronto, day or night. Hope that helps. A.J. - -- Q: How many art directors does it take to screw in a light bulb?
