I discard any and all theories that success in >Canada doesn't happen unless you try to break in the US market. Yeah, absolutely right. I agree that there are wildly, and deservedly, popular acts in Canada that no one down here in The Great Satan has ever heard of. (Kashtin, for example.) So there's success, as in "this act is great, and aren't we lucky to have it when no one else in the world even knows who they are? (we just don't get any respect, that's why)" and then there's too-much-success, as in "now they're breaking out into the international music scene (see, we're as good as anyone!) -- but my God, they're sucking up to the Yankees, touring *their* states and going on *their* media outlets; how *could* they?" I've yet to hear an explanation for why Canadian acts are so bitterly resented by their compats (and their popularity up above often plummets) when they try to make it in the U.S. as well. Or at least one that makes sense. - -- Lori (who makes a habit of hugging two flags, but, to be maybe too brutally honest, finds the Canuck one a bit prickly. And don't go pulling that mouse-and-elephant thing out of the mothballs again; no one called anyone a mouse. If someone happens to *think* they're a mouse, well, that's their problem not mine.
