N.Y. 233 is the Westmoreland exit. Wow, thanks to *everyone* who contributed their great reviews for this one. I feel like I was there! (Well, actually, that's a lie. I do *not* feel like I was there. I would be much more exhausted if I had actually gone to the concert, or heard in on RA. But nope, I'm one of the cheaters, who didn't listen to the concert and is now living vicariously through everyone else's posts. Given my geographic location, I am often forced to live vicariously through other people's posts. .) Anyway, it's great that Jian went online before the show, and I'm happy that some people *somewhere* were graced with a rendition of Laika :-)! I wish I could have heard the concert myself, but there was a very important party that night that I wasn't about to miss. Augh! Isn't that terrible? I feel so fickle and lame confessing this to a group of faithful and devoted fruheads, most of whom would move heaven and earth (or at least try to) in order to see Moxy live. But see, when a guy I've been in love with for weeks asks me to come to his party on Saturday night, I don't normally say, "Gee, sorry, I was planning on sitting in front of my computer all night." It just doesn't sound all that healthy ;). Anyway, thanks again, and Happy Turkey day to all of my fellow Canucks! :-) Take care, Gabby ------------------------------ Date: 12 Oct 1998 18:04:42 GMT From: starfox@Bacon.Eggs.And.NOSPAM.nationwide.net (Starfox) Subject: Re: Jordans -->was Re: Irving Plaza Chad Maloney wrote: : "Jordan I. JianBabe wrote: > > >how do you go about explaining Fruvous (without sounding as silly as I > >did)? > Believe me, I understand the problem. Normally, when people ask what a band sounds like, they expect a 5-second sound byte, and you just can't do justice to Moxy Fruvous in a 5-second sound byte. Normally I go with the "Rocky Horror" description, since a lot of my friends are into that film. I also mention that they have a wide variety of musical types, and that the best way to know what they sound like is to listen to them. With that, I whip my Moxy Fruvous mix tape out of my backpack (which I *always* wear, I feel naked without my backpack!) I made up the mix tape a while ago, as an attempt to peak people's curiousity. It has music from all five of their CD's, and so far it's gotten more response from people than plain ol' Bargainville. Here's the song listings, for those that are interested in what I consider to be "classic Moxy Fruvous": Side One: Jockey, Lazy Boy, Horseshoes, Johnny Saucep'n, Jenny Washington, Kid's Song, Michigan, Darlington, MBLABOA. Side Two: Drinking Song, Video Bargainville, On Her Doorstep, King of Spain, Get in the Car, Green Eggs and Ham, Gulf War Song. These aren't neccessarily all my *favorite* songs, but I believe they do a fairly accurate job of depicting what Moxy is about. As for TMBG, I've never mentioned them alongside with Fruvous because *no one* (no, I'm not exaggerating) has heard of them. I agree with the person who said that TMBG doesn't sound like Moxy, but fans of one tend to also like the other. However, I don't agree with another thing that was said. I think that, in general, Moxy Fruvous tends to be a more upbeat band than TMBG. A lot of the Giants songs seem to have a very depressing moral or idea at the bottom of them, though hidden beneath a veil of snappy melodies and clever lyrics. (Linnell cheerfully singing "I don't want to live in this world anymore" comes to mind.) Yeah, yeah, I know, if I want to disect the meaning of TMBG I should go subsribe to *their* newsgroup. I'll keep my off-topic ranting to a minimum from now on ;). I was wondering if I could snag some help finding out some info!! First off, Fruvous came to Fort Hayes HS. in Columbus, Ohio in or around 1994. I was wondering if anyone had been there who might have been able to tape the performance. If so, I would be indebted for life if I could make a copy, or even buy one!! Thanks for your time! See you in Columbus!!
