Anyone want to tell me what I can expect? Hooo boy! Expect the unexpected, and you'll have fun. Energetic set, much fan interaction, singalongs, dancing, madcap improvisation, exotic instruments, soaring harmonies, covers of whatever songs suit their whim, and guest appearances by celebrities (Superheroes, assorted royalty and Lou Reed all have been known to decloak for a Fruvous gig). Take your LN with you for autographs -- or just buy something else at the merch table afterwards. And, while you're standing at the table considering which Fru to ask for his signature first, you *must* obtain (and get stamped by the obliging Tobey) a Frumiles card! Because once you've seen one show, you won't be able to resist going again. . . and again. . . and again. . . and you may as well pick up the trinkets rewarding this, your new, freely-chosen, life-altering dependency. (Take it from one who knows; I've been to 6 concerts but only gotten 1 stamp. Geez, for that I could already have a Frupin!) Once you've seen these guys perform, then met them and conversed with them, you may need several days to decompress. You may find yourself babbling incoherent Dr Seuss rhymes. Your friends may be bewildered by your preoccupation with Moxy Fruitjuice. They likely will not fathom the wisdom of packing heat in the refrigerator, or the cosmic significance of an empty soup tureen. But despair not! You are not alone in this trial. You have come to the right place. We at ammf @fruvous.com dedicate ourselves to mutual support and life-giving community. We are many, we are legion, we are Fruheads. (We are lunatics, say some. Phooey to them, say I.) Have fun! - -- Lori ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Oct 1998 05:34:40 GMT From: cos@wbrs.org (Ofer Inbar) Subject: Re: Where is Clinton? Here are the travel times, from my experience: Boston, MA: 4 hours (from the 90/95/128/30 interchange) Toronto, ON: 5 hours (I think it only took me 4 and a half...) Goshen, IN: 10 hours (which means about 13 hours from Chicago) It'll be December, though. Weather is a *big* factor. All these drive times are for relatively clear weather. Gee, can you tell I drive around a lot? :) Average 2500 miles/month since I got this car, even though I work less than two miles from home. Granted, the fact that I can apparently do 2400 miles in TWO DAYS may be skewing the statistics a bit... -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@leftbank.com cos@cs.brandeis.edu -- The Left Bank Operation -- lbo@leftbank.com http://www.leftbank.com/ "24 hour parking this side even days of month begins at 8:30am. Then rollingstone.com doesn't want your business. It's possible that if enough people write enough blistering letters, rollingstone.com might take the hint and use open standards instead of proprietary ones. If anyone asks me what Moxy Fruvous sounds like, I usually say "Rocky Horror vaudeville glam folk!", which I saw on the website somewhere. If they laugh and/or get an interested gleam in their eye, I know I've got a potential convert. Alternately, I sometimes say "They're a folk group from Canada", which has the advantage of not making me sound like a loon (i.e. this is the answer I gave when my English professor asked me "What's that written on your shirt?"), but which is rapidly becoming suspiciously (to my family, anyway) overused. (An *awful* *lot* of bands I like fit that description. (speaking of which, kudos to all you people who've been plugging Great Big Sea! I picked up "Rant and Roar" on Friday and it rawks!)) But I think you're right that the best answer may be "Want to find out?" > Yes, I do feel as if I've been indoctrinated >into some kind of bizarre religious cult. At least I've heard others say >they feel the same, and it's a pretty fun bunch to be assimilated by. I think it's kinda like going coco for Cocoa Puffs, only more fun. And more permanent. I often liken them to TMBG by saying, "a lot of TMBG fans dig 'em. Imagine TMBG with more harmonies, more politics and more sad songs. That is sorta it." Then I explain that they're from Canada and have one of the most devout followings of any band I've seen. Why we all see the need to mention the Canada part, I'll never know, but somehow it implies "a really good thing that is interesting and fun that you've just never heard about because it's from another country." Or something like that. Just some impressions and the setlist for those who couldn't see it either *really* live in Chicago or through the webcast :) (1)Webcast guy Anthony wasn't all bad..he was, after all, able to make fun of himself, and he *did* eventually pronounce Fruvous correctly *lol* (2)Having Jian stop in before the show both on the broadcast and in the Rolling Stone chat room (at the same time, I might add) was a nice touch and appreciated by those of us in it :) We'd told Anthony that one of the reasons why we liked Fruvous was the way they treat their fans, and that was some of the best proof the guys could've provided *g* (3)One word: "request-o-matic" *ROTFL* (4)Mike's Thanksgiving song was beautiful...thanks for being willing to share such personal songs with us, especially while you're far from home... (5)/me crosses another 2 songs off the 'never heard live' list, though not among the top 5 :) (Laika and Greatest Man in America) (6)Tonight we learned that Frufans can do improv too *lol* The guy who won the chess set (/me is jealous) not only had a song done in his honour, but did two verses himself (well done btw Ronald, if you're reading this) (7)*Three* encores! "I Shall Be Released" with the Nields during the second encore...the mono sound on RealPlayer probably didn't do it justice, but still incredible :) Setlist: Extended Sahara Jockey Incredible Medicine Show (1.5yrs since I've heard this!) Boss Pisco (seems like the strudel bit has been permanently removed) AJ & Lisa (improv) I Will Hold On Tureen Saucep'n Mike's Thanksgiving Song Laika (*cheer*) Moon Minnie (great Chicago lyrics Mike!!) KITA Greatest Man in America (was beginning to think I'd never hear this one live) Fly (no tears this time, but was shaking through the whole song..) "Request-o-matic" (improv) Michigan nhl intro KoS/GE&H BJ LP#9 (Ohio, Stayin, Who Will Save, Gotta Get Over Greta, Barbie, Love Shack) Encore #1 - GitC Psychokiller #2 - Chess Set (Ronald Maruzak (sp?)) I Shall Be Released (w/The Nields) #3 - Drinking Song Hopefully sometime in the future there'll be another webcast of a Fruvous show :) Great show guys!
